Timing belt tensionir issue
I'm having trouble getting my belt to hold the tension. I can get the belt tight but once I start the car it loosens. So my question is how can I check to see if the tensionir is bad. Btw the motor is a gsr and has new timing belt

Re: Timing belt tensionir issue
Ive seen several cases where the tensioner bolt itself stretches to the point where it will hold the tensioner in place until the car starts and puts pressure on the belt. Try another washer on the bolt or shorten a bit. A washer is a quick easy way to test the theory.

Re: Timing belt tensionir issue
Got the tensioning solved. it was 850disco said. I guess the bolt had streched to the point it wouldnt hold tension and the tensioning spring also wasnt putting enough force to tightening the belt. Now the belt is to tight but no big deal ill just loosen it lol

Re: Timing belt tensionir issue
i had never used it at all...but with the supertech and bc4 cams it was a pita..until i tried it..all i did was pull on the bottom of the spring while i torqued the bolt...and it hasnt given me a problem yet..also not too tight...timing belts usualy whine when their too tight..

I used the coat hanger trick as well. After a certain amount of testing and driving, you should get an idea of how tight it should be. I believe the Helm's manual gives you a measurement of how far the belt should bend when you push on it from the front of the motor.
