Default Port and Polish

If your B16a head was ported and polished can you still run stock ECU or would you need a VAFC, chip, etc?

you can run a stock ecu, it just would run better with a chip, vafc, or a standalone system

because currently my B16a has got pretty good tp end power but absolutely no low end. Ive got a VAFC but thats initialized. Car feels so sluggish when you plant your foot down in low RPM in second gear.

Port and polishing normally doesnt help out the lower rpms. You should get a good 3 angle valve job if youre looking to help low end.

Do you think port and polish could actually make my low and mid range WORSE than stock?

Im thinking if I get the VAFC tuned on the dyno it would help considerably with the midrange.

When I bought the car the VAFC was road tuned and had VTEC coming in at 4500rpm but i was advised to initialise it as it wasnt tuned on the dyno, and ever since that my car feels a bit sluggish.

When I first installed my vafc in my car and initialised it if felt like it lost power too. After I took it to the dyno and tuned it everything was good. You just need to have it tuned..

Yeah after i initialised the VAFC i noticed the VTEC bark was almost inexistant. Like the VTEC noise was barely noticeble.

you really dont want a noise or a jmp into vtec. but you ideally need a smooth transition into it.

My mates EK4 SiR is standard, only got ram pipe and pod filter and exhaust and that screams like a bitch when VTEC kicks in.

that really means nothing. a smoother curve will yield a better area unde the graph, hence more power, more of the time.

Get the motor tuned, you can't make a big change like head work and not get the tune redone.

By tuning do you mean tuning my VAFC? And maybe adjusting the timing? What else will they do when they "tune" your engine?

Thanks for the input so far guys.

Ahh cheers. That might explain my huge flat spot and sluggishness from about 2000rpm to 5800rpm.
