New T1R 70mm catback vs T1R 65mm

First of all, I would like to thank Dave @ R&D Motorsports and Ben @ A&J Racing for following through with this exhaust system, I have been putting pressure on them for the last 6 months to make a large diameter exhaust for N/A applications, and they came through big. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

I have been running the second-gen T1R 65mm catback since '03 when they first arrived, and have been a fan of T1R products since. At the time, it was one of the only 65mm systems w/o bottlenecks. Plus it sounded wicked and made excellent gains. ( Old Dyno comparison thread Stock ITR vs JDM 4-1 & T1R https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=659143 )

There have been a few debates on exhaust size for built N/A motors, mainly is 2.5" too small or is 3" too big...so I figure somewhere inbetween should be a happy medium (70mm = 2.75").

The problem with most 3" systems is that any resonators added compromise ground clearance, so many do not have any resonators at all...the 70mm is just about as large as you can get with a resonator without 'dragging' the B-pipe so to speak. For us N/A guys who want to keep a resonator (or two), this unit is it.

Here is a ground clearance shot:

http://www.itrspec.com/PICS/T1R/Pict...20(Medium).jpg

I decided to do another unbiased test. I hopped on the rollers and did 4 baseline pulls, swapped catbacks and did 5 pulls with the 70mm. The following graph is the best baseline versus the best 70mm.

Pictures of the system pre-install. The system includes a 70mm T1R resonated testpipe as well!

And finally, here is a sound bit of the 70mm idle and free-revv. *note* I did not have the T1R resonated testpipe on.

Thank you Marshall for your write up!!! I'm interested to see more plots after some tuning is done.

god damn it, its so hard to get a nice exhaust for an EF without making your own.

Thankyou for the info 92! Is it just the angle of the picture, or does the new design have a slash cut on the tip??

It does have an angled cut at the tip. My old 65mm does not.

Re: (92TypeR)

lot of good it does the EF guys https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

someone needs to step up and make a good exhaust (custom asside) for the crx/civic EF chassis. the only thing bigger then 2.25" (or 60mm, SLIGHTY bigger) is the thermal 3". a 70mm system would be really sweet.

92, tell them to make a crx/civic version

WTF I didn't know this, I used to work their. I'm going to have to give that bastard friend of mine a call, he's been holding out one me. Yes fellows its very difficult trying to find a decent exhaust for a EF.

Comptech Race header.

The first two responses were from the two distributors. PM them.

You posted the best two runs from both catbacks, but what were the average numbers? Were they much different?

Re: (erikiksaz1)

So this exhaust is set up for an Integra with a JDM spec header correct? The test pipe is the length of a stock ITR cat? Cause I have a civic coupe with a JDM header and Omni Power test pipe and I would love to run this exhaust. How long is the test pipe? 16in? My test pipe is 19in. to fit up to the USDM ITR B-pipe and JDM ITR header. If you could make one like that it would be super cool. Thanx

The setup is meant to bolt up to an Integra w/a JDM length header w/JDM sized donut, yes.

drive4aliving 11-19-2006 12:16 AM

so the 70mm is officially out and u made 4 hp over the 63mm version?

JDM_teh_WIN!! 11-19-2006 12:17 AM

Re: (92TypeR)

Yeah I was wondering if you ever thought about making a test pipe for a civic with an ITR exhaust. The cats a are different by about 3in I guess. Prolly due to the length of the car I would assume. Can you tell me the length of the test pipe? Every thing else bolts up fine. Thanx

I wanna hear a soundclip of that redshift exhaust for the Ef. i doubt it sounds as nice as my invidia though.
