Hey guys.

New K cam designations are as follows:

K Stage 1 - A
K Stage 2 - F
K Stage 3 - H

You will find these markings laser etched onto the face of a cam lobe. The last letter in the sequence is the cam designation.

Thanks Brian.

Is there any chance you can make a (technical) thread (or a note on skunk2.com) regarding the problems experienced with the k-series cams. What kind of testing you have done, what kind of changes was done, how many times the design has changed, do they still need the skunk2 tensioner, and so on. Real in depth (tech) and honest.

There are so many rumors out there (people selling used cams claiming they are the new design, and such), and I am sure you would sell more k-series cams if it could be an "end all discussion" thread.

Also, do you have plans of pro-series cams for the K-series?

Ya I remember that video. That was on old silver version 1 K cams. That test was somewhat bunk in that when turned by hand like that there is no oil pressure in the tensioner.

The version 3 cams we have sold for the last 4-5 years or so do not exhibit the same issues. If you install a new OEM Honda chain tensioner, then preload it by pushing on the chain guide where the chain makes contact until it makes 2-3 extra clicks from the ratchet, drive it through a few tanks of gas, go back and preload it 1 more click to account for any stretch in the chain, you will not get any noise out of the timing chain and the tensioner will last a long time.

You always want to regularly check your timing chain tensioner, and replace it if you see any signs of wear to either the nose of the ratchet or the teeth of the plunger.

Skunk2 tensioners are not required, but recommended as they are very reliable. They have not been available for quite some time, but are anticipated to be back in stock sometime in early 2014.

Version 3 K cams are hand marked with an S#V3, with the number being their stage 1,2 or 3. These are all black coated camshafts. The newest cams are no longer hand marked, but rather laser etched on the lobes with a stamp in the end.

People are very happy with their version 3 K cams. So long as you install the tensioner with some preload, account for chain stretch and check up on that tensioner from time to time you will have no problems, make some good power and not break the bank doing so.

As for anything more technical than that, I would leave it to someone from R&D or Marketing to make a more "official" post than what I can provide. My last day here at Skunk2 is actually this Friday. After that I think I will retire my Skunk2Brian screenname so nobody mistakenly believes I speak for the company. My personal screen name is Soaringchimp. I will probably use that one going forward.

Before Christmas especially I am very sorry to hear this unless it was your decision, then best of luck either way.

Thanks for the sentiment its appreciated. This is by my own choice. I am taking a job at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Skunk2 and building fast Honda's is still my passion, but the chance to work on rovers that explore other planets is an opportunity that I simply could not pass up.

Hehehe.

All I think of is Brian being the next Howard Wolowitz losing the Rover on the Moon Project!!

I'd make that move in heart beat!

Thanks! To say I am excited about the new gig is a gross understatement.

@TheShodan HA HA HA Mac's a funny guy 8]

I wont be responsible for losing the rover but if you hear any news reports of the rover doing unexpected burnouts.....

Are all these marking still the same?
Degreed a set of supposed S2 Pro1 for Hseries today. And the Duration repeated came out at 220Degrees(Intake Cam). Sheet that came with the Cams said Intake 264Degrees @ 1mm.

There was a White Laser Etching on the Base Circle on Primary Lobe #1
Said something like "S2 gkn" Not sure if that is right. On the end of the Cam the was a Stamp "G" where it would normally have Pro1+ hand etched.
Kindof stumped.

Have the Marking changed now that it is 2015?
