My tuner made a video! '93 del Sol Si - JDM GSR tuning session
Hey everyone.
I had my car tuned in April of 2018 by a good friend and professional tuner, Nick (Tuning by Nick). I posted a video of it back in April but he's since created a new one of the session and posted it on his YouTube channel. It's a great collection of each of the pulls with specific details such as VTEC on or off, RPM range, ETC. Each pull has the power output displayed. Final pull was 198whp and 138wtrq on a Mustang Dyno.
Here are the car details:
1993 Honda Civic del Sol Si
OBD-1 JDM GSR
Integra Type-R intake camshaft
Generic aluminum short-ram intake
Skunk2 intake filter with velocity stack
68mm throttle body
Skunk2 Pro Series intake manifold (black series)
GReddy 4-2-1 header
Tru-Bendz 2.5" mandrel-bent piping
Vibrant Ultra Quiet 2.5" resonator
Vibrant Ulta Quiet 2.5" resonator as muffler
Walbro 255plh fuel pump
'96-'98 spec Integra Type-R LSD transmission (4.4 FD)

Nice video and great results, nick tuned my car this past summer and I'm very happy with it also.

With the d16 I would downshift more frequently to try to keep the engine in the higher RPM range to make power in VTEC when coming out of corners. That's where the close ratio setup between 2nd and 3rd was helpful. With the GSR motor I'm making 22 foot pounds more torque at peak (138 vs 116) and 3rd is a longer gear (closer ration between 2-3) despite being an ITR transmission. It's the 96 spec with the 4.4 final drive. I'm able to keep the car in third gear and use the torque to pull through the gear when coming out of corners. I also can worry less about destroying the synchros!!
I do miss the fun factor of the close setup between 2-3 in the d16 and also the look on peoples faces when the saw it was a single cam.
