Default input on cam choice

looking to get started on my build. i'm not looking for big power. just something nice for a daily driver something conservative. not looking to spend too much.

i have a 95 b18c1 in a 92 vx. i'm wanting to freshen the motor.

first thought was:
itr standard pistons
itr valve/springs/retainers
buddy club spec 3 cams
buddy club cam gears

but i recently saw a package deal for buddy club spec 4 cams for $20 more
so thought about doing
itr standard pistons
buddy club spec 4 cams
buddy club cam gears
buddy club springs/valves/retainers

ive searched, but couldn't find anything on how the idle is on the bc 4's. so i was wondering how they idle, and if it would be worth the $20 more to go with the spec 4's vs the 3's.

Since you are going to keep it as a daily driver, stay with a milder cam. I made the mistake of putting skunk2 stage2's in my gsr without upping the compression with new pistons, and it acutually hurt the performance. VTEC crossover was set at 5800 rpm so it would cross over smooth, but I had a stock bottom end so redline was still at 8000 (The cams wanted to keep going). So eventually I had to up the compression to 11.5:1 with some b16 pisons to keep up with the cams. Now it pulls hard to 9200rpm. The bottom line, you can over cam your car if you do not have all of the upgrads you need for the wider powerband that the cam requires.

compression would be bumped up slightly with the itr pistons

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
The spec 3+ typically make between 13-15 whp on b16 and 16-18 whp on the b18c. Mid range is bumped up agreesively.

The spec 4 is a bit more aggresive and makes power up to 8800 rpm, but you will need higher compression and a built motor for it. It makes about 25+ whp.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

I checked out the specs: Idle is fine with spec 3's as with the spec 4's

With ITR pistons you could run either cam.

I would suggest that if you do go with the spec 4's you get some arp rod bolts, and head bolts if you are going to spin past 8000 rpm. Or even if you are not and go with spec 3. It is $220 well invested. Trust me.
