IMW-Built/Tuned: 85mm B-Series Daily Driver
It's been a while since I have posted anything here, and wanted to share the results of a small customer job we just completed.
The customer was looking for a naturally-aspirated B-Series project that had enough power/torque to have some fun, but still retain all comforts of the daily-driving useability (air conditioning, power steering, quiet exhaust, etc).
We set the goal around 220whp, expecting the smaller 2.5" exhaust with large-volume resonator and muffler to hinder flow a bit. We also were looking to keep the revs conservative, for reliability concerns (nothing over 8,600rpm for this engine).
The engine setup consists of the following:
B20 block (stock sleeves)
CP Pistons (85mm, PN#SC7119)
Eagle H-Beam rods
Clevite bearings
OEM Honda oil/water pumps
ARP head studs
Golden Eagle LS/VTEC conversion kit w/head gasket
GSR P72 cylinder head (stock casting)
SuperTech valves/springs/retainers
Underground Racing BC4-Spec camshafts
Blox intake manifold
Skunk2 Alpha throttle body
IMW-Spec 3" cold air intake
PLM "RMF-Style" header
IMW-Spec 2.5" stainless exhaust
Injector Dynamics 725cc injectors
Tuned in-house by John Kerr @ IMW with Hondata S300
The results surprised us a bit, surpassing the projected power output on 93 octane with ease.
The final numbers were 232whp / 160wtq.
The car has ample torque at any engine speed, which is a plus for our customer using this as a daily driver. The exhaust note is also very docile; the valvetrain is actually louder at idle and cruise loads.
The power this engine made is what we normally see engines with much higher compression and ported cylinder heads make here, thus why we decided to share it with everyone!
Thank you for viewing! If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Good numbers, can not wait until I drop off my motor for assembly, you and John are awesome at imw, which is why every single one of my friends gets tuned there. Keep up good work guys.

Ported head and a "bigger" header and I think 250 is attainable. Very impressive build. Every time I see a B20V build this simple with great results it make me more excited to finish mine up. Great job guys

They're supposedly the same grinds as the Buddy Club Spec 4's (and I wouldn't be surprised if they come from the same place).

The cams were at -1 IN, +2 EX, I believe. Couldn't tell you table timing values, John tuned this one.

CP rates the pistons at "11.5:1", so with the GSR head, we'll say 11.6-11.8:1?

^for daily driver comfort, is the only thing I can assume lol. Car has serious solid power. Great power band.

I didn't know that underground racing still made custom cams. Are they any different from the original ones? Power curve is nice and sounds to have good midrange.
Nice stuff!
