How to measure ring gap with domed pistons????
Im trying to measure ring gap and my P73 pistons dont make the ring seat true on the bore when pushing it down giving a false reading on ring end gap.
How do you go around to do this??

the dome is not that big..you should be fine when stuffing it in the cylinder to square up the ring for measurment...if its alittle off after you pull out the piston align the ends carefully together by hand..this is what i do and works perfect..everyone has their own way though...

All dome pistons I have seen will have a flat ridge on the top of the dome. IT is not like the dome is an actual tent where two slopes meet at one point. It is more like two slopes meet with a small gap between that is connected. Like this

push the ring down about an inch into the cylinder. I think this should be sufficient for most pistons.
once its "squared" in the bore, use your feeler guage to check the gap.

I just use a carpenters square.Set it at one inch.Put the ring in the bore,and work the square around the bore while bringing the ring up against it. http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr...uares

Use a LS, GSR, 4AG, piston or a Fosters can. There must be a flat round object close to the correct size of the bore somewhere, where you are located. And .020 is too large.
