depends on the cams. spec3+ is one of the best stage1 cams you can get. it does not make your idle unstable. cams that make you fail smog are ones that make your car idle all messed up.

i think he wants NA mods or else he probably wouldn't had posted on All Motor forum.

Very good point - I had forgotten what forum this thread was posted in. My apologies.

If you want to stay 110% smog legal, you can only buy a CARB legal intake (AEM or Injen), header (DC or Comptech) and exhaust (there are a few options)...and maybe a Skunk2 intake manifold if you want even less low end power. Pretty much nothing else.

I'm gonna do the edelbrock header with 2.5 inch collector mod, car sound high flow cat, and buddy club spec 3 cams if i can sell my blox type b.

if u want 100% smog legal then everything visable needs to be carb approved.
i was at one point very close to smog legal. made 178 whp setup was...
aem intake
dc header
itr tb
exhaust
s2 IM (not really needed)
high flow cat (carsound is smog legal)
alaniz head work
slightly higher CR w/ thin head gasket & omni valves
s2s1 cams (& cam gears)
hondata s200
problems are, hondata is not smog legal on an 00 Si because it requires u convert to obd1, but good tuning is the best investment of money on a built motor, so do it. it takes about 5 min to put ur stock ecu back in for smog. adjustable cam gears are not legal, but great for tuning. just make sure once they're tuned (pick up a second valve cover & cut it to view the cam gears), u put ur stock valve cover back on & no one will see them, so ur good.
a better header is a great idea, but not carb approved (carb options include dc, comptech, and some others i forgert cuz i've given up on carb approved parts a while ago). so this sucks. although generally u can get away with a jdm itr header if u put the heat shields on it.
a little higher CR will help make more power, jdm b16 pistons are a good idea.
these are all good ideas to stay close enough to smog leagal to not require much work to pass and make u good power.
but if u want to stay 100% straight all u can really do it...
intake (aem, ingen, comptech i think are all carb approved)
header (dc, comptech,...)
exhaust (dont matter)
carsound cat (carb approved, but be careful as they somtimes rasise ur emissions to much)
S2 IM (but not needed)
s2s1 cams are carb approved (could do itr/ctr also)
thats about it.

Re: (pchan)
ctr cams, ctr header, and modded OEM airbox, and tune. You'll still be quicker than any cammed or butchered b16. And you can increase displacement later, stay with all stock parts, be legal, and still have one of the quickest combinations, especially for a heavy Si. Don't get caught up in that "game", you'll be pulling your hair out forever...

Yes it is. You can't touch the engine management in the slightest...technically.

wow, that sucks. i know here in certain areas you have to go through that. always other ways around it, like have the registered address in another town that doesn't do them.
