Default head gasket question??

I got a blown head gasket that warpped my head. took it to the machine shop and they ended up taking .040"(fourty thous) off. As of now i have ctr pistons that im replacing with itr, just looking for advice of a head gasket. should i go with stock or a thicker one? and if so how thick. this is in a b18c with itr cams. any advice would be great. just going for a mild b18c all motor, thanks

start measuring what compression you want. Looks like you're going to be running something pretty thick since you took that head down so far.

Make sure the block is flat to or you'll have another blown head gasket/oil leaks. Remember there both alloy.

Also you could use a thick head gasket to make up for whats been removed.

agree. you may want to reconsider piston choice.

ya with a stock hg with itr pistons it would be bout 13:1 cr
so im thinking going with a .050" hg would make it in my goal compression range and be good just dont know how thats going to go with when i get bigger cams in the future. im going to do some research on how to clay for p2v.

.040 is a large number for a warped head. Sure you did not mean .004? At .040 you just changed all the cc's per chamber, plus the rocker shafts should bind with a .040 bend in them. .004 is fine, .040 is toss it.

stock should be okay. I would also like to recommend using different pistons.

If you know that the heads been milled by 0.004 exactly, then you can work out the drop in combustion chamber cc. Online cr calculators are not always 100% exact. At the end of the day the best method is to actually cc the chamber, work with the dome cc differences bet ctr and itr pistons, measure the piston to deck volume.

Depending on how much or if the block has to decked, you should be fine with stock hg and itr pistons.

If the drop in chamber cc via milling isn't tooo much more than the drop in dome cc from ctr to itr pistons, it will be fine..

You just going to have to double check cam timing.
