What can be done with a non-vtec B18B and remain all motor?
I have done the following to an 96 non-vtec B18B integra AND I AN STILL NOT SATISFIED. What can I do and remain non-vtec and all-motor.
Current set-up: cold air intake, 4-2-1 header, N-1 exhaust, cams, cam gears, dual springs, ti retainers, under drive pulleys, fpr, jet v-force, msd ignition Soon: Apexi power fc, 70mm t.b., skunk 2 intake manifold, WHAT ELSE? there has to be someone out there who has gone this route with an all-motor non-vtec B18B. thank you in advance. what cams are you using. we have done many non vtec B18s using our cams and headwork. street setups using stock bottom end doing 13's are the common results.

search, there are plenty of posts regarding your topic.

i am using crower's 62403s.
i have done a search but there not many all-motor non-vtec B18B setups mentioned seeing how much i can do the the underdog B18B https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif |

there was one guy on here that got in the 12s i think then he sold his car....and another guy in here is trying to hit 11s so iam sure if he does this weekend or so you will see a post on it..lots of potential just gotta use the right stuff...just like any motor

hey ive been looking for the same info, i have a b20z and im keeping it non-vtec but ive looked into cams and i think im going to get the b20z cams. They look very nice with big lobes :D I have 2 b18b's now that are getting some 12.5:1 compression slugz thrown in it over the winter. But if ya find any more info let me know!

we had the fastest NA ls motors way back in 94-97 12.2 @109mph pomona raceway.. that was in a 94 acura integra..

a little more info about the setups?

Re: What can be done with a non-vtec B18B and remain all motor? (ADAH 303)
You need to increase your compression to take advantage of what you already have. You could use Teg or Civic R pistons to keep cost down. Mill the head, deck the block, run thinner head gasket are all viable options.
You can have the head ported, and increase intake valve size to 33mm(vtec size). This option won't be cheap, but it is possible. Mess with your cam gears, what are your current settings? Have you changed the overlap at all? They sound pretty nasty at 105 lca/lsa. Although you do have to be a lil creative to make it idle. Its all a compromise, streetcar vs. racecar. |
Re: What can be done with a non-vtec B18B and remain all motor? (Sleeper)
I have a 95 LS (look in my garage for the mods). Most I haven't done yet and I am pretty satisfied. I run 9.10 @ 76.99 1/8th mile but the car should be 13's easy on the 1/4 mile after I complete the build and it is low budget build.
Check it out! |

shit mnag nice setup! i have 2 spare ls blocks to mess with but i would need the overbore ctr pistons for my b20 right? What does the ctr pistons give you for a compression ratio with the ls head? IS the deck high stock?? any dyno numbers yet?

I'd recommend trying to find a set of PR3 pistons on Ls rods if you could. Change the rod bolts to ARP rod bolts so they can handle the rpm's that you are about to give it.
Those cams are too much without compression to back it up. PR3 pistons will be dirt cheap and easy to find. -edit- A friend of mine had a high compression LS (with PR3 pistons like I suggested), ARP rod bolts, Iceman Intake, JDM 4-1 header and ran a 14.4 (with an LS tranny) into a 40 km/hr wind. Changing the tranny to a VTEC one would help big time too. 70 mm on the TB is a bit overkill. |

The compression with stock size head gasket is around 11.4:1. Not bad for OEM pistons huh! |

in a b20 you have to use aftermarket pistons. there bore is bigger then a regular b series motor.. |

stock block. just headwork and custom cams. modified type R intake manifold 66mm throtle body. honda ecu. and dc headers.. <<< like i said this was done way back in the day..

Re: What can be done with a non-vtec B18B and remain all motor?
yea thats what i was thinking since its a 84mm bore.. i plan on keep the valve sizes stock just with some wild cams of course a hondata to back it all up. 70mm is way to big i think for a good all motor b18b with high compression a 64mm would do you just fine.. right now im looking into the endyne rollerwaves so i can run 13:1 on the street on pump gas with some ef-1 b20z cams the Strong NA ones they have some sick ol lobes compaired to the wimpy stock ones. I thought cams gears on stock cams are pointless they really dont do much i guess not.. How hard is it to get to idle?

i met one of the guys at KG in Cali and he had a crazy fast LS motor. it may have been run on alcohol... that i cant remember. just try to get ahold of those guys.

Re: What can be done with a non-vtec B18B and remain all motor? (GreenR)
did you change your pistons? you can't forget the cr on an ls block is only about 9.4:1, which is too low for allmotor. i know a guy with a built ls running high to mid 12s on slicks. i'm not sure what's his setup, but the guy who built it(i know the guy who built it personally) said he was on 12.5 or 13:1 cr pistons(arias if i'm not mistaken) and i believe the same crower cams you're running.
so if thats the time you're looking for, then you're gonna have to re-sleeve, rods(shot-peened), and pistons for the block. for the head, dual valve springs, ti retainers, yada yada yada, with the cams you already have, and match-ported head. hope this helped you out. also, look to spend about 3 to 3.5 on the motor. re-sleeve=$1000 Pistons(rings and pins)=$500(roughly) bore(may have to do depending on pistons)=$100 rods=$300 head(retainers, d-valve springs, valves)=$600(roughly) match-port=$300(roughly) total=$2700 not including labor!, $2800 w/ bore and no labor! but you will most likely need miscellaneous(spelling) parts here and there. therefore, total for everything will be about $3 to $3.5K(my estimate) also if i'm wrong or missing something, correct me. so far it sounds about right. |
