GSR Head on B16 Block ?! - ANY COMMENTS ?

Well I'm goin to build a new motor for my EF and I ran across a GSR Head and intake manifold yesterday for a GREAT Price so I bought it. I'm thinking of matching it onto my B16 Block with stock Internals that i have had for a while now just collecting dust... Well I figured I would get some of my fellow H-T peps thoughts on this build. Well let me know what you guys think I want to try to learn all I can about this combo before I install it in my car so that I have a good idea of what I'm workin with here. I'm open to all suggestions or comments so let me know what you think ........

It will work on a b16 block. Compression will go up a bit.

it will definitely work ditch the stock gsr intake manifold get a Skunk2, with the bloxracing 68mm throttlebody and a set of ctr cams or skunk2 tuner stage 1 cams

minimum difference between b16 and gs-r head that's not worth switching it out imo. you already bought the head for a great price, now sell if for what it's worth.

The GSR head and intake manifold has other benefits people are forgetting here... I would run the combination but you will need to run a Gsr ECU to work the butterflies in the intake. The tune would be off so you'd need some sort of tuning system ideally. An aftermarket Intake manifold may be worth looking at as it would simplify things a little for you but you do not need to upgrade your throttle body. Better cams would be an asset.

waste of money, spend the money on a intake manifold, cams, computer, header

ur compression will be slightly bumped up due to gsr heads smaller combustion chambers but if u are happy with this set up then that is all that matters. do some head work and u will really feel the difference =]

you always match the belt to the block you're using.

Oh, you mean the poorman's ctr combo.

The big bump in compression is nice. To me, this is the only way to run a stock internal B16 in an integra. If you have the P30 pistons, then you should be even happier. Just start running only premium gas.

Agreed. The cam centerline to cylinder head surface dimension is the same as the non-GSR head.

NOTICE: There are some precautionaries that must be taken with the head bolts. Different lengths. Thanks to Endyn, I avoided making that mistake. Use B16 head bolts from what I can remember.

I ran a P72 head on a PR3 bottom end with an AEBS intake manifold. It felt like it had a bit more torque than the standard B16 setup I'd run before.
It didn't like the stock P30 ECU, though. I ended up tuning it on CROME to good effect.

Ok well i got the motor in and wired now it will not start i'm smelling fuel so i think it's got fuel and it has spark just will not start ... fire'n order is correct also .... now the weird thing is that when i turn my key off in the ignition switch the "brake" and "oil" light stay on and ECU keeps blinking the 22 code because my vtec is not wired up .... but this thing has me lost lost lost need some help from you guys if possible ....

Yo man, it sucks that you're having these issues. Whichever wires you touched, or pinouts you touched, go over it. Obviously you've already thought of that, but the fact that your brake and oil like stay on after turning the key off is beyond odd.

yeah you got that right ... the key can be out of the car completely and they are still on ... I am sooo lost right now this is my D.D. so i gotta get it up and goin but yeah it just turns over and never fires the only possible thing i think it could be is that the timing is off but i'm almost positive that i got it TDC but the light thing is what really has me puzzled like to the max cause i really did not do any wiring i used the b16A harness just like it was no cutting no nothing this is really weird so any help you guys can seem to throw my way is a big help :scared:

Please explain how it would negatively affect reliability.

OK it's not a slow combo at all so i think you should do a bit more research

the first think i would do is check all the fuse, make sure all the ground are hook up right and everything is getting power to where it is suppose too, check the main realy, you could try switching ecu, maybe you ground something and it burn some wires up.

I had this combo a few years back. i had ctr cams and pistons and gsr manifold w/o butterflies. made 193 hp. Ran pr3 ecu with 88-91 Si harness.

As far as your issues...i can't help you. Like someone said earlier, check all the grounds under the dash and engine bay.
