Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today

Well, i finally went and got tuned today at mainsteam by scotty (DynoJet).
Very mild build
Still have ac and ps
B18c1 block
RS Machines .20 over ITR(usdm) pistons
ACL bearings
B16 head-untouched
gsr cams
ARP headstuds
Shortram intake(ebay special)
DC JDM ITR header 2.5" collector-testpipe (2 1/4)
Apex N1 exhaust all cut up and rewelded and crap(2 1/4?)
Made 158.7hp at 7500 123.9 torque at 5800
https://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h...j8/Picture.jpg

future upgrades (hopefully soon) will be 2.5" exhaust, CTR cams, and Password JDM Carbon intake hopefully will get me to 170
Very happy with the results, Scotty did an awesome job! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif to Mainstream

sounds about right for ur build. get a velocity stack, some cams and a nice header and u'll be seeing some good power

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (boosted k20)

Let me 1st start off by saying that I am not rying to talk trash... But ifigure you posted the setup as well as the dyno numbers so people could comment
With that being said ... 20 over itr pistons , DC ITR HEADER and test pipe+ exhaust should give you quite a bit more than what you ended with... Especially after tuning... I would rec. A compresiion&leakdown test. The reason I say this is at least on my dynojet a bone stock gsr puts down between 153- 157hp ... Just trying to help

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (WHITFIELD-TUNED)

Okay...My motor has exactly 634 miles on it right now...Its pretty much what i expected.. Oh and yea 20 over isnt shit... and oh wow JDM ITR HEADER WOW....THats a crazy header.......no

I'll post the graph tomorrow. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif

I'd listen to him ((WHITFIELD-TUNED) He's been doing this for a while.

Honestly, my friend's JDM GSR with just an AEBS IM put down 160.0. So you might be down a little on power somewhere. And DC sports is t3h suxxors.

(WHITFIELD-TUNED) know what he's talking about https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif i've seen him post dyno chart on the car's he worked on, great numbers all the time. Getting my car tuned by him very soon https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (WHITFIELD-TUNED)

i've seen dynojets read off or low like that..but wow.
i think it's pretty obvious what chris is trying to say:

you should be making more with what you have.

so what if your build up is mild..no one is ridiculing you in any way. he's just saying he's definitely seen equal builds make a lot more, so you might have a problem somewhere. why spend money on ctr cams/tuning when you might have a bad ring seal or something?

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (EVOL)

i take it you were the red 00 SI that was here yesterday?

IMO, thats about right. Bone stock GSRs make about 145whp on our dynojet. For just pistons an a header, thats not bad. THose cams are definetly holding you back. what intake manifold did you have?

Scotty is the man, he is the one that tuned my 240whp LSVTEC, Kierons 202whp stock block GSR (RMF, PRO1s, Skunk2 Head), EJ All Motas 155whp ITR piston LS, Spoolins 622whp Turbo LSVTEC, 19sec Beasts highest in the country 630whp Turbo LS, an a host of others. I would stack him against anyone on here.

I get what Whitfield is saying, but not taking a shot at west coast guys, but our numbers are much more conservative out here. I see some of the numbers out of Cali an i know it would be 10-15whp less out here in GA.

Get some cams an a intake manifold, i wouldnt get the PW JDM intake yet.

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (VtecKiDD)

Yeap that was me...IM and TB is b16 and my head is completely stock not milled...I would actually rather find a 3" intake with a velocity stack but it just needs a new one.
Oh and whitfield sorry i was a little drunk when i posted that last night. But yea what i got was pretty much what i expected, i just wanted it tuned so i could actually drive it.

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (reddohcvtec)

theres your answer, get an AEBS intake an ITR cams https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

different temp, humidity, barometric pressure affect dyno numbers from around the country

RedEj8 06-29-2006 09:38 AM

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (VtecKiDD)

Yea im deffinately down for ITR cams and a new IM. If i could only find itr cams.
A JDM gsr has what about 10.6 compression and i have about 10.8 if the zeal compression calculator is right

VtecKiDD 06-29-2006 09:41 AM

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (reddohcvtec)

Good luck, took us 2 months to find a set for a customer, he ended up buying brand new cams.

With all the scamming going on with ITR cams, its just not worth it. I would get Skunk2 Stage1s, i can get them for a decent deal

rodimus 06-29-2006 10:31 AM

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (VtecKiDD)

gsr cams = sux0rz

shit i remember my friends bone stock itr with over 100k miles with just an aem intake ran stronger than my gsr, which had a edelbrock header with 2.5 mod, straight pipe, full jdm itr exhaust, itr tranny, j's intake, NO PS/AC, and a obd1 ecu.
coulda kept ps/ac, and just got a vafc plus cams and i woulda been more happy.
f*ck gsr cams.

RedEj8 06-29-2006 10:38 AM

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (EVOL)

Yea i deffinately need some new cams...Oh yea and i have PS and AC..Cant get rid of my ac in GA.
Sheet is up!

East Coast dyno numbers.........West Coast dyno numbers

LOL, just kidding. But I do think it's harder to make higher HP numbers on the right-coast. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

But back to topic. The dyno I use usually nets numbers in the mid-140's for stock GSR's.

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (D-Rob)

as stated those #'s are far too off with what you have even with GSR cams....

stock GSR's with a Skunk2 Mani can put 165whp ish...

u def need to look into it.....

comp test, leak down
make sure your valve lash is good things like that

Yea i deffinately need to the get valves adjusted. I was going to before i got it dynod but i got lazy and procrastinated. Will do it this week!

Re: Got tuned at Mainstream Performance Today (FR-MOB: SnoFlake)

just like i said before, the temp, humidity, barometric pressure WILL AFFECT DYNO NUMBERS.

saying that a GSR makes XXX on a dyno in cali an comparing it to a dyno in GA is not a good comparison.

I went through our Dyno today, the HIGHEST stock GSR we have had, im talking stock GSR pistons, intake, airbox, with a DC JDM header made 145whp.

this guy is making 13whp more, with pistons and a header. not too bad. he def needs cams and a intake manifold to extract more out of it. I was here when it got tuned, an it wasnt blowing smoke out of the back like the motor was bad or burning oil .

Unhook the power steering, the AC belt, 45 PSI and 0 toe, on the front tires, plus a velocity stack in front of the fan and you will be fine. Prob 170. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmileo.gif

Its that kidfolk 06-29-2006 02:50 PM

which usually always work for the main easy hp access thats hiding on most cars https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Yea and it was 95.78 degrees..and who knows what the humidity was since we're in GA

Ha i will try that next time i go get it dynod. But the thing is,i had to drive almost 2 hours to the dyno so i left everything hooked up and just how i would drive it. And besides, i wasnt looking for huge hp but just a good tune like i would be driving it everyday. Im very happy just because i have been dealing with my motor burning oil and smoking for bout a year now.And now,2 blocks and 5g's later(but im getting that worked out with a lawsuit against a crappy engine builder)...I have a car that doesnt smoke and i dont have to add oil to every other day. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
