Dyno-tuned NA OBD1 JDM GSR: 198whp, 138wtrq (ITR intake cam, I/H/E)
Hey everyone.
Last year disaster struck when I blew the NA built d16z6 in my '93 del Sol Si at the track. Building it was a labour of love and I was extremely happy with the output for a 1.6L single overhead camshaft engine VTEC engine (158whp/116wtrq). You can see the dyno video here:
Here's my Honda-Tech thread regarding the d16 build:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/all-mo...-dyno-3298217/
I decided rather than build another that I would swap for something that could make better power with OEM reliability. Luckily I found a JDM GSR (1.8L DOHC VTEC) motor. I paired it with an ITR S80 LSD 5-speed. The only relevant modifications are the intake camshaft from an Integra Type-R and bolt-ons (intake/header/exhaust). It made an incredible 197.8 horsepower and 138.3 foot-pounds of torque to the wheels on a Mustang Dynamometer. To say I'm happy with the results would be an extreme understatement.
Next step is to take it to the track!
Here's the dyno video. The dyno chart is at the end. It has on it the graph from the d16z6 dyno tune I did last year in the spring for comparison. Thanks!

Hey vtecmaster85. Yes it is. Stock JDM GSR motor with an ITR intake camshaft. Bolt-ons are Skunk2 intake filter with internal velocity stack, generic 70mm short-ram intake, 70mm TB, Skunk2 Pro-Series intake manifold, GReddy 4-2-1 header, 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust.

Real strong numbers for what you have... that engine must be a freak of nature. Congrats.

ok niiice man. That's a strong gsr, a real freak. It makes about the same numbers expected from a type r motor. Nice power curve as well! I loved my b20 vtec freak on ctr cams. Torque and midrange was nice.

I'm honestly impressed. A gsr motor with bolt ons and just the type r intake cam making just about 198hp on a mustang dyno is great! From what I understand mustang dynos read lower than a dynojet. So getting higher numbers on that dyno is fantastic.

You're right. The Mustang Dyno does read lower than a Dyno Jet, I believe around 10-15 % lower if I remember correctly.
