Default D15B2 + D16A9 Head Swap Question

I am looking for an inexpensive way to boost my little honda's power with out spending to much money. And I figured that swapping on a better head is just what I need, I wanted to use a DOHC head because I was told you can tune those a little bit more power from those then a SOHC head. But I am not sure if the head will bolt on to my D15B2 block without modification, like if I have to tap the block so that head can bolt on properly. And I already know that I should get a new ECU, upgrade from DPFI to MPFI, which would mean a new intake manifold.

ok um you cant use a dohc head on a sohc block nooo wayy its going to happen.. and as far as boosting the performance a little the best thing to be is to do a mpfi swap with a si intake manifold instead of swapping the whole head...

that sucks the D16A9 wont bolt up?I just found 1 in a german junkyard and would take the whole engine but it knocks and they wont part it out.All I really want to do is swap to mpfi, sure a B16 would be awsome but I dont have money for that.I guess I will give up on my EF and start looking for an EG because europe sucks for junkyards. They want a ton of money for any parts,200 euros for a the mpfi swap on a D series.F*%& that

It is possible to put a DOHC non vtec head on a D15B2 block. Is it worth it? Not really. I have DOHC ZC head. I put a SOHC head gasket on the head and one of the head bolt holes does not line up. One could plug the hole with an aluminum shaft to fit the head bolt hole and redrill one to match the D15 block. The tough part is the timing. The DOHC ZC cam gears are about the same size as LS cam gears but the D16A1 cam gears are about the size of aF22 cam gear (times 2).
I read about a guy on the east coast that put a D16A1 head on a D15B7 block. He found a timing belt that worked and got the thing running. After all that work he had like 7 more whp. Not worth it.
I would suggest to stay SOHC and go with MPFI. Get a D16A6 throttle body, intake manifold, injectors, injector resistor, cam and ECU. Look on ebay you can get all those parts for under $300 bucks. Go to pgmfi.org and the write up to convert to MPFI is there. It's really easy to do.
I have a 88 DX with a D15B2. With DPFI, I could barely burn out. I'm talking about flooring the car until it hits the rev limiter and dropping the clutch. I switched to MPFI and I can roast the tires in in first and get a good chirp in second (and my motor is completely stock). Don't give up on your EF it just needs a little help!

easiest thing would be to put on a d16y8 or d16z6 head and a decent exhaust. a PS9 ecu with turboedit can activate the vtec (search '1-wire vtec" on pgmfi.org)

also, an SI transmission would go a long way toward waking the car up if you still have the dx.

the dohc has been done but its not worth the effort for most people.
