Default Copper coat on barely used GSR head gasket?

First off, the head gasket in question was used for exactly 300 miles. I haven't pulled the head yet. I can't get a new head gasket for this thing for a while.

Anyhow, i've always seen the MLS head gasket as reusable on ultra high compression and ultra high rpm small block v8's. The only way we could do it was with a copper coating. You know, that spray on stuff you can buy in a spray can at an engine parts house.

I've never tried it on a honda MLS gasket yet. Anyone done it?????

LOL, i know many people disagree to reuse headgaskets, but hey i do, many times, no problem, just make sure it doesn't have high miles on it, somewhere under 1000 miles is still acceptable. make sure u use copper spray tho.

PS: i only reused OEM headgasket, have not try anything else!!

The real question is, why are you pulling the head? If you have overheated the engine even copper spray will not help.

I rebuilt a gsr motor for my 2000 integra because it had a spun rod bearing. Everything was fine except I had a faint rod noise after about 2 days of driving it. I must have missed the rod bearings. Anyhow, it will take too long to get the GSR bottom end put back together. Therefore, I will be taking the motor out of my 91 DA integra race car, which is an obd0 B16, and I will be mating the B16 bottom end with the GSR head. The gsr motor was freshly rebuilt and has exactly 300 miles of break in time. I will eventually mate the GSR bottom end with the PR3 B16 head for a broke dick type r combo, and will probably put this back in the DA.

The head was resurfaced while rebuilding the motor. I would like to reuse the head gasket.

Why would it be awhile before you could get a new gasket?

I use the copper spray even on new gaskets... Haven't had any issues. I don't know if it makes a difference using it or not but it certainly doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

Parts stores aren't open and I need to get this thing together. Not only that, the parts stores that are open don't stock these, nor can they even order them.

This motor was driven for exactly 300 miles. Yes, it did get up to operating temperature about as many times as you could imagine any motor that totaled up 300 miles.

I can't get one, so i'm gonna have to spray it. I have the copper spray already, so it's not like i'm just trying to save a few bucks.

If I were this guy I would have just done this **** already instead of waiting 2 days for forum responses. It would either work, or it wouldn't. Either way you would know almost instantly. Do it and run a leakdown test.... Leaks? Buy a new HG. Doesn't leak? Enjoy...

You can get a headgasket shipped to you from majestic honda (see link below).

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...artsSearch.jsp

Why waste time and money on a headgasket that has already been heat cycled.

I have a condom i only used on 2 girls. both were clean. let me know if you want to re-use it.

copper is more or less to aid in heat transfer from aluminum, into the steelheadgsket and into the aluminum head.

or you could just honda-bond it. youll even see a compression bump.

Fo-shizzay.

The copper spray was right next to the duct tape and vice grips in the tool box I borrowed from the local handyman.

Gran Torino! Clint fo da win (too bad but justified for da oscar snub).

That movie reminded me of Donf. Dude was drinking beer and calling people by epithets [slang nicknames] only acceptable in da 1970s.

Back to da topic.

Ya prollee shouldn't. I've re-used headgaskets and gotten what I derserved--bad results. Never had problems when I used a new gasket.

I have never personally reused a headgasket so I couldn't tell you for sure if it will work. I understand your point, it may be $60 you may not need to spend but is it worth your time pulling it apart again if it leaks ? If it is then go for it. Otherwise just buy a new one.

Speaking of the copper spray what side(s) are u supposed to spray with that ?

Maybe if you take off you valve cover and spray it directly into your motor like a complete idiot is will do that. Otherwise if you spray it on and let it dry per the instructions on the can it will do no such thing.
