Considering catch-can for track car. Suggestions?
Hey everyone.
I have a 1993 del Sol Si with a JDM GSR swap that I take out for lapping sessions. The swap was completed last year. I noticed that when I'm coming around a hard corner and step on the accelerator, there is a puff of blue/white smoke that blasts out of the exhaust. It only happens around hard corners and hard acceleration. I'm positive that vapours and some oil are being forced up into the crankcase ventilation tube which is connected to the intake pipe. I want to install a catch-can to eliminate this.
I know that they've been done a MILLION times. There's no shortage of information available. I've been doing my research but I see that most people installing them are running some form of forced induction. There's also no shortage of options available on the market ranging anywhere from $25-$250.
What would you suggest for an NA weekend track car?

Be sure to report back if it helps. I was under the impression that catch cans were only useful for high-boost drag cars, but then I guess they don't see cornering Gs to present issues in that way.

No its used to relieve crank case pressure! every engine has crank case pressure, the more power/boost the more crank case ventilation is needed.

Actually, catch cans are mainly used only for collecting oil drops and other liquid form stuff from blow-by vapours, they don’t relieve any crankcase pressure. Proper size hosing and ventilation are that for.

What you actually want is an air oil separator. It is plumbed in the vent line between the valve cover and the intake. It will have a third line to drain oil back to the sump.

This works for both NA & Turbocharged affiliations alike. Also separates oil.
