Bowl blending, port/polishing- Is this Valve seat Ruined??

Bowl blending on a GSR head, kinda touched the copper/bronze seat there a bit, wondering if this is still ok.

Who cares if it's ruined or not by the porting, you should get a valve job anyways since your seats are already pitted.

well i was worried that i might of nicked it into far that maybe i couldn't get a good valve job to fix it.

FV-QR

It will be fine for what it is. A pitted stock VJ. You wont see much just blending it into the throat

Re: FV-QR (Combustion Contraption)

basically i just want something similar to the type r.

See what Steve is hinting at? Get a Type R VJ or better to get the best bang for your buck:thumbup:

Re: FV-QR (b20vtech)

the seat is fine but take it to a machine shop and have a valve job done.
30-45-65 is what the ITR comes with. if you want add a small 75 cut to the 30-45-65 and it will pick up .400 & .500 lift flow. by just blending the bowl with the stock VJ you wont see much for gains. working the right places of the SSR will liven things up a bit.

Re: FV-QR (Master of the Universe)

a decent valve job will fix your problem. nothing to worry about, that is so minor as to not even be an issue. take your valves and that head to a decent shop and let them do the work. it will come back quite a bit better than a hype r valve job.

Re: FV-QR (idrivesideways)

Bah. measure the throat on the intake and exhaust. As long as its not to big for the valve. Other wise if its too small you can go with 1mm over valves to make sure the valve has something to seat to. This is what i do with my port jobs https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

Depending on application, throat to valve ratio should be around .85-.9:1 https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif Or so I've read and been told several different porters https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

FV-QR

Does 2V shallow chamber wedge head using cam w/ .800" lift want a different throat % than a down draught 4v using .470" cam?

Sorry jus here 2 lurn. Hope someone gives up da info out of da goodness of der heart!

Rocket 11-07-2008 11:53 AM

Re: FV-QR (Combustion Contraption)

The simple answer is there is no simple answer.

Don't fool yourself with a "ratio." One is not limited in tweaking just the throat size.

92% is generally considered the absolutely largest. I would not go over 88% myself.

For what size valve and port? Turbo or NA? Drag racing or road racing?

Well i'm talking percentage of valve.
I would base it more on the profile of the port rather than 'size'.
For NA or turbo i would not go over 90 regardless of application, but everyone does it there own way.

its really intended useage. I have seen 92% work, at the track, even when the bench does not show an improvement.

The bench is a tool just like a dyno or at least that is what I'm told.

Transient response sucks. But that is just my opinion.
