Default Troubleshooting : B20vtec turns over then dies

Whats up HT!

I built a b20vtec with b16 head and stock internals, put bolt on's such as skunk2 intake manifold, skunk2 68mm throttle body, aem fuel rail, endyn breather tank kit(block was 99+, missing pcv valve hole in back of block), oem jdm type r header, blox test pipe, greddy exhaust, tuned on p28 s300 by xenocron.

Car has been running great since i got her tuned by xenocron in NY... long story short i went to change some parts on the car and never had the engine re tuned... change intake manifold from skunk2 to an oem b16 manifold and throttle body from skunk2 to oem b16 throttle body.

Now the problem didnt show immediatley, i ran the car this way for about a month and after she sat in my garage for a few more months i come back to start her up, she runs for literally 1 second before car bogs out and dies.

I am getting a cel code 3

car will not run just cranks over then dies...

has anyone come across something like this... the car was running absolutley fine and now she wont run at all.

anyway i put all my skunk2 parts back on how i had when i got the car tuned and still nothing

Timing belt is set
New cap, rotor, wires, plugs

I pulled my plugs and they were completely black and threads were soaking wet.

any help is very much appreciated

thanks HT!

Bad map sensor or map sensor not getting good vacuum signal to it. Plugs are fouled out and need replaced from extreme rich condition caused by ecu or seeing proper manifold pressure.

Yea x 2 , Pull out the map sensor and roll up a piece of napkin very thin and insert it in the map sensor nipple see if the napkin soaks up any oil ! it can get in there and foul out the map sensor it has happened to me before, also check the wiring and O ring, but it could just be a bad Map try a used one, then go in Smanager and click down load, then click Upload and start the engine.

no that's why you must click down load first as was said previously. also make sure and save a copy to your laptop.

You can if you don't know what your doing. Smanager can be a pain and download something that looks nothing at all like your tune if you have a newer or older version of the software vs what's on the ecu. You really don't need to download it to replace the mapsensor, not sure why he said that.

Because Hondata can have glitches and corrupt the tune calibration, per Hondata's instructions you must download then upload the tune to fix it, mines recently did it on my S300 V3 engine would not run. So if he has any issue with his software or ECU this might be worth a shot, and there's no harm in doing it at all. Always save a copy of the file on your laptop.

Turned out to be bad ecu... had a couple burned capacitors.

********EDIT*********

I lied... the problem hasn't changed. Here is a video of the car

I swapped out map sensor for a known good sensor and still having the same problem.

i have not changed my plugs yet i will pick some up... What is the right plug to buy for b20vtec?

any other ideas

Change the plugs then try again. Ngk bkr7e plugs are what I run in just about everything. Part number 4644. Also does the car happen to be a 92 civic? 92 is a one year only car where the map sensor wiring comes from the chassis not engine harness so if you have a map plugged into your engine harness and not your chassis plug your ecu wont get map signal.

I have a obd1 rywire engine harness and the shell is a 92 civic. I just put new plugs in and car idles a lot better but stil getting check engine light for map sensor... there was a lot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust i noticed smelled like way too much fuel.

Sounds like you need to get a multimeter out and start checking for voltage at the map pin on the ecu side of the harness as well as check for ground and 5v at the map sensor. You can find pinouts on google of the ecu as well as map sensor wiring pin out.
