I just picked up a new toy, 1990 ED6 with B20b4, Type R head and gearbox. It was running a few days ago, however there was some key issues leading up to crank no start.
1. Long time to crank before running
2. Some hesitation/jerking at low speeds
3. Air Fuel was showing around 10s most of the time and car was using heaps of fuel and spitting black soot out the exhaust
The ECU is a P28 that has been chipped and I have tried to pull the codes but just get a solid Check Engine light, in ON position, when cranking it disappears. I have spark and fuel pressure reg showing 40PSI. I have also tested resistance at the injectors and all are 16.5.
So I think my next tests has to be compression and timing? I don't have a compression tester so will need to go get one and have no idea how to check mechanical timing? Sorry i know is difficult with no CEL codes, do you think this is due to being a chipped ECU?
That chip could possibly be the issue, or the ECU itself. I've encountered an issue like this before. Ask a friend or someone to let you borrow their ECU to see if that's the problem.
Not sure but my best guess is that it is a base tune of some kind. As soon as I get it started again I will put in a hondata and take it for a proper tune. Taking the battery back tomorrow to get a bigger one.
If it is running really rich, it is possible that you have simply fouled out the spark plugs. Pull them out and clean/replace them and see if the car is easier to start.
Saying you have a "chipped" P28 ECU is like saying you just got a really nice custom shirt sealed in a small box... you don't know if it will fit you, and there is no sizing information on the box... but the salesman says it will be PERFECT for you !!!

I didn't chip it I just bought the car already chipped so no idea what is on it but still remains the fact is a chipped ECU?
I also heard that they can program the chips to block CEL codes so this is why I mentioned it, to see if this might be the reason I can't pull any codes?
I'm almost sure that OBD1 Ecus do not store the codes after turning the car off. I'd check the plugs, base timing once it's running, and change to hondata asap.

When I was checking all the fuses and relays I noticed when I pulled out the relay a jumper wire fell out as well. I wasn't sure what this relay was at the time but now know its the starter relay. I had to jump 2 pins C and D on the relay for the 12V signal to reach the starter.
