B20/vtec Rod choice.

Hello, I'm about to start putting together my B20/vtec for my hatch. I don't plan on sleeving the block, I want it to be a mild all motor build. I want to use an after market rod but don't know who to go with, I've been looking at Eagle and Brain Crower. Also biso-moto seems to make a sick rod. I'm just looking for input from people who have used these products, or has any better recommendations. Thanks. :wiggle:

Believe it or not, some places charge extra to sleeve a b20.. not alot of people carry the correct machine to sleeve b20's.

A block guard will be sufically if you plan on staying under 260whp.. b20 sleeves are strong in themselves as long as the motor is properly tuned.

I run GE rods in my own b20vtec, however

scat,ge, crower all make great rods.

Blockguards are trash. First of all, there is virtually NO sideload at the top of the cylinders where the block guard goes....it is closer to the midpoint of the bore. Second, they are 99% of the time tapped into place. On these honda motors where every thing is clearanced to the .0001, what do you think you are doing to the alignment of those cylinders. Also they are installed at the top of the cylinder where all the heat is produced and where you need the MOST cooling.

i went with eagle rods and no block guard but then again im sure im gonna be way under the 260 hp mark i should be right at the 200 whp mark and its a daily driver so not much harsh abuse will be done to it. and if it wasnt for me using forged pistons to get the desired compression i wanted i would of just used stock rods

Im not misinformed, I just don't like them for the reasons stated above. And you're lucky, if i EVER had one installed DonF is probably one of 2-3 people I would ever trust to install it.

I bet for a "mild build" a sleeved block and aftermarket rod is WAYYY over kill man.
