hey guys,
im rebuilding a b16 and i noticed i have some shavings in the main oil galley, so i need to open the core plugs and clean this stuff up,
my question is: are the plugs installed from the factory with loctite AND a washer? (like the breather plugs)
also,
is there any chance of cracking the block when opening them.
final Q, whats the torqe for these plugs?

They have red locktite. 14mm hex key will get them off. I always pull all of them when I get a block cleaned.

Yes they do have a washer and loctite on them. Any rebuild of the block should include removal of the plugs for proper cleaning. Especially if any machine work takes place. You will not crack the block removing them. It's a 14mm size hex, I modified a 9/16 so it fits very snug and it works great for removing them. I have never torqued one or looked it up, it should be in the manual.

crap the have loctite on them.. ive always used a tiny bit of rtv to keep any oil from seeping through the threads. i think its somewhere between 30 and 40 ftlbs for those things but i usually just get them nice and snug with a 1/2 drive ratchet...

I personally always heat them with a torch first to avoid the risk of stripping the threads when removing the plugs. The heat breaks the LocTite's bond.

This. I use an impact if possible too to make it a quick shock to break them lose.
