Default Arias Pistons or JE?

m looking to drop in some standard bore pistons in my GSR motor with the goal of a compression of 11.6-12.0 with stock head gasket. I was originally gonna go with JDM ITR pistons because i was told i would get a 11.6 compression but a professional builder told me that i would not, and that im better off paying a little more money and get a forged high compression piston because i will know what compression im getting and it will much stronger than the JDM ITRs so thats what i will do. So now im looking at Arias pistons or JE and intrested in know which is the better to go with as far as power and reliability. Also will these be good to run on my stock GSR rods or should i get eagle rods?

JE if your choice is limited between the two.

CP if you wanna rock.

Go aftermarket rods for the floating pin so you don't damage your pistons if you ever want o pull the pistons off the rods.

accoroing to the C-Speed calculater which may or may not be correct, my options are:

CTR Pistons and OEM Head gasket @ 12.0 compression
JDM ITR Pistons + Mugen head gasket @ 11.6 compression

Or I can spend a couple hundred bucks and get fordge JE high compression pistons which may be a waste of money cause I dont plan to increase my redline.

So basically between those choices, I want which ever one i can drop in my motor on my GSR rods with no modifications required, and will run efficiently with for daily driving and still make good power.

I have also decided that since im not changing the red line that im just gonna go ahead and run with CTR cams

Neither choice is good because of the taller compression hieghts of these pistons leave very little room for piston to head clearance with a GSR head.

On a ITR/B16 head the quench pads are recessed so you don't have this problem. GSR have quench pads flush with the deck and this is where you will have problems.

are you talking about the Arias or JE, or all of them including CTR and ITR?

CTR with stock gasket
ITR with thinner gasket

If you are close to Justice Race Engines you might want to have Jim Justice help you.

what will be needed to make those choices work, because this is the first time that im hearing that there will be a problem. Everyone else says they run them fine but i want to know for sure.

You'll want to custom tailor your piston-to-deck height with a cometic gasket. Cometic head gaskets come in various thicknesses.

The set-ups you mention can run fine but if you rev past a certain point like 8500 rpms you may have your pistons tapping the head, and that's a no no for street cars.

When you deviate from a stock set-up with different parts you'll want to check your clearances to make sure you will still maintain all the safety factors that make a motor reliable and thus more enjoyable.

well im planning on keeping my stock 8200 redline, its sounding like i should be running the CTRs with stock head gasket rather than running with a thinner one

Have you considered what happens if you accidentally shift into 2nd gear when you are shifting from 3rd to 4th gear.

Hint: Your rev limiter is not going to help you. The rev-limiter is a misnomer. The proper term is fuel cut off.

you were on the right track in the first post. BUT if you must run ctr/itr double up on headgaskets or run a cometic to be on the safe side. you should ALWAYS clay your motor for clearances.

ok so if im doubling gaskets then shouldnt i just go with CTRs so that i can loss compression from 12.0 and still end up around 11.5 or more?

not sure what your final compression ratio will be but check out this sticky

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=717928

there should be more than enough info to give ya a idea of what compression you will end up with.

If you want inferier pistons go with the CP. Look at the import builders.com web site and it will show you how good the CP pistons are I think they rated last on the piston list.

You would be better off with stock over the CP.

I use Arias Pistons in our motor I have never had one issue with them and they work well. I have also used the JE and they seem to work ok I personally got alot of help from the guys at Arias. The guy who helped me was Tom. He was patient with me as I did not know alot about what I wanted. They are ok in my book for the good help.
