5000 miles with my TSX: my thoughts so far
Ok, so the first oil change came this morning, at the scheduled 5k.
So far, here are the problem(s) I've met with the car:
-Rattles in the 2 front doors - problem corrected this morning, by reinsulating the doors. No more rattles.
I originally wanted a car with the following features:
1. Fuel efficiency equal or better than my 95 EX Accord
2. Power and handling equal or better than my 95
3. HID, telescopic steering wheel, and dentist seat for my back.
Well, I gotta say that all these requirements have been met, and everything else to me was a bonus, adding to the pleasure of having this car.
I was very surprised by the stiffness of the suspension, but soon discovered how much better the suspension is comapred to my old 95 EX. Last week I drove my friend's 94 LX, with suspension components upgraded to EX specs. The car felt sooo sloppy and all over the place, I just couldn't believe it. Guess I won't be looking back on the handling.
Performance wise, well, my 95 was well upgraded, and did flat 15 on the ¼, slightly better than the TSX on paper, but I guess the 6 spd makes the car feel like it has more pickup, so I like the performance. I let myself loose a little and gave it some gas, and found myself at 130mph in no time, still in 5th gear, and pulling. That was a nice feeling, though completely useless, I confess...
As far as gas mileage goes, I have been playing in the numbers of 33 to 36mpg, ever since the 2nd gas tank on the car. That has absolutely amazed me. Last week, I managed to drive for 566 miles, before filling up. So the fuel economy more than compensates for the cost of premium instead of 87 for my 95.
But those are stats. Of course, you might say this is my first brand new car, well, just the same, I'll tell you I have never driven such a tight, alert, sharp, and especially communicative car as this one before. I fell in love with the car. The rattles were a little nerve-wracking, but nevertheless, way overshadowed by all the other plusses. And now there remains no more rattles.
So far, then, I guess the experience is a positive one.
PS: Anyone else with TSX experience here, please be sure to add your input too.

It's a very quiet car, more than what we're used to in Honda's, I guess. And the wind noises are very minimal.
As for gravel roads, I have driven in a few, and 17" wheels make no exceptions, you can't drive very fast on those roads or you'll risk bending a rim. But accelerating with the traction control on gravel roads is much smoother than when it happens on asphalt. Actually, you don't feel the effect of the TC, other than the car won't spin when accelerating hard. Same goes for the active stability system on gravel. I guess it demonstrates this system will be pretty effective for wintertime. At the track though, you best disconnect it though, because it is a fun killer.

I love mine...no problems at all at 2200 miles. Another bonus is there are not many around..yet. I have seen only two others on the road here in So. California. And have yet to see another red one anywhere - on road or dealer lot.

Well my report says
The 2 front rattles are getting annoying.. need to get that fixed. Other than that everything is cool.
Gas mileage is as expected
Voice Navi works awesome.. finds almost everything!!
MP3 player a lil dissapointing since no ID3tags can be displayed.
Suspension is a lil stiff but very responsive.
TSX gets a from me.

how was the break-in procedure done? i am curious with a newer honda hi-output 4cylinder. or did you just take it easy for 100 miles and then drive it hard? i have driven a couple at the dealership(auto and man) and both are great cars. too bad they are all pre-sold for the year. but i would wait until they got all those little bugs out and get a 2nd year model.

Re: 5000 miles with my TSX: my thoughts so far (texnteg)
When I asked the dealer about the break-in process, he said just not to rev it way up to 6000RPM for a while, and for the first 600 miles or so, to vary my speeds during highway driving. But aside from that, there was no other special things to do since they are really well built engines, they don't require much attention.
I drank about one pint of oil for the first 2k, then it seems the engine hasn't burnt any more oil, so I guess it sealed up pretty well.

thanks. i have always changed the oil after 500 miles to makes sure any metal shacing are out. and to take it easy for a while to let everything seat. sounds, like your enjoying the car.

Re: 5000 miles with my TSX: my thoughts so far (xanctus)
Ok, just a quick update, I've tested the car with one of my friends on our Gtech Pro.
We did 8 or 10 runs this evening, at around 85°F, with cold tires, and the last one yielded the best time. We were really getting a better feel for the launch. We stopped there, we felt we'd not get any better, since we had given her a few good runs flat out already.
Well, here it goes:
0-60mph: 7.40 secs
¼mile: 15.62 @ 92mph
60-0 braking: 140 ft (with 2 people and a golf bag: ~400lbs)
We should be able to improve by maybe 2 or 3 tenths with heated tires, cooler outside temperature, and practice, but not more.

Re: 5000 miles with my TSX: my thoughts so far (sauceman)
that's some nice 1/4 times for a 4dr 4cyl fwd. = only honda can do such things ;-) although that's still a gtech. what rpm you launching at? and do you hit redline? or go to fuel cut off?
i haven't seen many tsx's around my area... i'm thinking of getting one... tempting, especially seeing what times you';re getting.

Re: 5000 miles with my TSX: my thoughts so far (azndng)
My times were not that good. Car and driver's times were at least half a second lower everywhere. I guess we didn'T have the right method for launching and shifting.
For the launching, I couldn't tell you, since it is my friend who got that time, but I believe at 4k, slipping the clutch, and shifting at 7500 would be the key to beating the times we made. I'll have to try it with heated tires and cooler weather.

Good report. My TSX replaced my '98 Integra LS and as much as I liked the Integra, the TSX is even better in all aspects except one. I like the driver's position on the Integra better.
However, the ride on the TSX is much more comfortable and the handling is on par with my Integra (with suspension mods).
Things I like about the TSX is the interior design and quality (except for minor fitment issues) and the fact that it is limited availability (at least for now). I've only seen 2 others in my city.
Complaints: the drive-by-wire takes a while getting used to, some rattles that I have not located yet, leather seating could be better done (again, minor fitment issues), expensive to insure.

Yeah, I'm on clubtsx.com and acura-tsx.com as well. I also check up on this board once in a while since I previously owned an Integra.

a friend just bought a Carbon Grey 6spd, with body kit. It's nice! We did however notice the rattle coming from the passanger rear seat area though... Purchased from Radley. I just love that red one with the kit and GM wheels!
