Problem with TPS Throttle Position Sensor and Shift Lock 99 TL
Hello - I just purchased a 99 TL with 150,000 on it. The guy I bought it from said it needed a new "idle sensor". I figured he was talking about the TPS and had the codes checked out and they also were related to TPS. When driving the car home, it shifts at higher RPMs than it should... It shifts each gear at about 3500 instead of around 2500.
So I bought the "OMNI" TPS replacement from IAP Direct and installed it yesterday... Thanks to all the forums on the web, it only took 15 minutes to make the switch. Before I installed the new sensor, I did notice the old one wasn't even plugged in. So I plugged it back in, reset the codes, and started the car. The codes popped back up after 5 seconds. So I unplugged the old one and replaced it with the new...
I plugged the new one in, reset the codes again, and started the car back up. I still get the maintenance req, TCS, and transmission light on. I decided to take the car for a drive with the new sensor plugged in, and after I started the car, the shift lock was on and I couldn't shift out of Park. I went ahead and popped the shift override button next to the shifter and shifted out of park. I took the car around my block and it wouldn't even shift out of first gear! I switched to manual shift mode to get back home...
I unplugged the new sensor and the car is back to "normal" again... Codes still appear, car shifts too high, but the shift lock is not on when I start the car, I can easily shift out of park...
I am at a loss at what could be wrong at this point - i checked all related fuses and nothing is blown -- Forgive me - I am new to Hondas / Acuras but I can't understand how the car runs ok (other than shifting higher than normal) with the TPS unplugged but it will not even shift out of first when it is plugged in...
Any ideas and all help is greatly appreciated!!

rajca - I thought that disconnecting the battery would clear the codes / ecu... Is that not the case? If not, I will try taking the clock fuse out as you suggested.
Thanks

looks like a bad throttle body assy. what is the value readings at full throttle ? you will this info on a advanced scanner.these readings will guide you in the right direction of repair.might be a pcm issue or wiring problem

Dtapia - Do you have experience with tuning the TPS after installation? I put the new one on but I never adjusted it or checked the voltage... If the TPS isn't set properly, do you know if the tranny will lock and not shift? Thanks

Re: Problem with TPS Throttle Position Sensor and Shift Lock 99 TL
I also have the same issue as you OP, I have a 99 TL with 150K on it and I bought a OMNI replacement sensor from ebay a few months back, it worked fine for about 2 months, now it's throwing the P0122 and check engine light is on. I'm currently thinking about buying the OEM TPS Sensor and get it installed, however, anyone can help me out getting the correct part number? I was given 28900-P7X-003 but then on honda OEM sites that product# was replaced by 28900-P7X-013, I ordered & tried to installed it and yet it doesn't fit at all!!
