2007 Acura TL Tensioner Issue

Ok guys so I wanted to replace my serpentine belt and tensioner on my 2007 Acura TL base 3.2 I get the Gates kit through Rockauto kit #ACK060841. Which is the tensioner part #38332. And the belt #k060841. Well the problem I have is that on the new tensioner pulley, the "bearing cover" does not fit into it. But fit just fit just fine on the old pulley. Looking at the old vs new pulleys, the new one looks wider. So I tried bolting it on with the original bearing cover(spacer) and it makes a grinding noise. Then I try with just a regular "O" shaped spacer and I go to start it and it still makes a noise. Any ideas? Btw I haven't been on here in a while. I used to go in the Acura Integra page on here and post because I had Integras years ago. Its good to be back in an Acura!!

Re: 2007 Acura TL Tensioner Issue

i have a gates tenioner and belt on my car now and works fine for me. honda/acura does have a tsb on trimming the timing belt cover to prevent noise from other brand tensioners.
theres a plastic bushing that comes behind the bolt hole on the gates tensioner. it holds the bolt from sliding out while installing.
i would make sure that bushing didnt fall on and wedge itself between the tensioner and the mounting surface.
i just did my timing belt/ water pump 2 days ago and had to remove my tensioner, i reinstalled everything and mine is quiet.
the tsb is #08-049 if you google it, should be able to find on honda website

UPDATE: Sorry for no update on my thread. I have since returned the new gates tensioner and have picked up a new tensioner from the Honda dealership instead. Put it on... no problems. Bolted right up just like the original and I was good to go. But yea I can see what you mean about the aftermarket tensioner hitting the Timing belt cover. I just figured eh screw it, I'll just buy an OE replacement and not have to F with it.
