Icon2 Starter not disengaging in time...

2005 EP3, stock powertrain.

On cold and humid mornings, there is a split second shreek from the engine area when starting the car. I'm fairly certain it's the starter gear not disengaging in time (bendix gear?); very similar to this vid:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bmqkq2zqQqo

- I'm hoping the bendix gear area just needs to be cleaned and lubricated?
Is this a easy thing to accomplish, what's involved?

- What if the starter needs to be replaced, is it accessible on it's own, or do other parts such as the axle etc need to be pulled to access/replace it?

Thank you!...

I've taken apart several honda starters. They are not that crazy. Unfortunately on the K series engines getting to the starter is a real pain in the ***. So in my opinion if you are sure it's a starter you might just want to invest in a new starter and just replace it... Since you have to go through a lot of hassle to get it out I'd hate to see you take it all apart then put it back together to have no fixed it. . .

If you don't want a different starter, just carefully start unbolting and pay attention and you'll be just fine.

Ok, thanks for the input. Any brands to stay away from?

Go with you're local alternator/starter re-builder or get Denso brand as they are the OE manufacturer.
