K24A4 turbo vs. K20A3 turbo
im thinkin about turboing my EP3-- any advantage of swapping in a K24A4 out of an accord/crv/element??? what do u guys think?? i want your opinions on this. I may end up just using the K24A2/TSX. But i want to know if there is any advantage of the K24A4 vs. the K20A3. thanks

Re: K24A4 turbo vs. K20A3 turbo (bunnyrabbit)
the k24a4 is an overall better motor.. more discplacement, hp, tq.
i believe i has a stronger bottom then the k20a2 but a weaker head. not totally sure. |
im not considering a k20a2 right now! im comparing the accord/element/crv motor to the stock ep3 motor.
|
anybody??????????????
|
rsx type s is faster
|
yeah i know that-- im not comparing a k20a2 or k24a2! please respond to what im asking-- i have a couple rsx type s k20a2s that r being built

you have a COUPLE of k20a2's being built and you are still spending time on a k20a3? http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif |
yeah-- i have an EP and just wanna keep it cheap-- so im either gonna turbo it or swap a k24a4 and turbo that----- CHEAP is key with this car.

Re: (bunnyrabbit)
cheap doesn't work with turbo. And the K24A1 is a good motor to boost. It's the CRV motor.

Re: K24A4 turbo vs. K20A3 turbo (bunnyrabbit)
I don't know how the K24A4 rods and pistons compare to the A2 off hand but if your planning on going that route, choose your turbo wisely.
Although the rod bearings are wider on the TSX motor, the motor is not meant to be revved nor will it last. Maybe go with something ball bearing that spools quickly to take advantage of the larger displacement. As far as the A3 goes, I'm not a fan of boosting them. Although the CR is low, the rods are extremely weak. The crank is not well balanced and there are no oil squirters. Between the 2 I would go with the A4, slap a set of off shelf forged pistons and rods, keep the stock sleeves and call it a day. Although it can't be revved to high the larger displacement is a plus. A2 owns both though. But if you destroke that K24 its all over. |
kool kool-- i know turboing isnt cheap man-- i have had several high whp turbo cars! i am tryin to just keep a stock motor in my ep3-- just wondering if it would be beneficial to swap in a stock k24a4 or just keep the stock k20a3 motor!

Re: (bunnyrabbit)
Really it depends on your power goals. People have had success with the A3 below 300 hp and with a GOOD tune.
When people go with a hybrid K24/A2 or A3 they usually swap out pistons and rods too. Its just convenient when the motor is out. Therefore I can't give you too much insight into how durable the A4 bottom end really is. Also, I have never torn one down. But I have seen first hand the diff. between an A3 and A2. Basically if you are staying below or even close to 300 I would keep the A3. If it blows, then go A4. |
yeah-- thats what im thinkin about doin! i am building a monster k24/k20 hybrid turbo motor-- but i just wanna make my ep playful, so i think im just gonna turbo it and run aem on it for now!
|
k20 head on a k24 block, thats good stuff right there
|
Re: (bunnyrabbit)
If you just want something to hold you over till you get your hybrid up and running, then just turbo your A3. Keep the boost low and enjoy. Why go through the trouble of swapping blocks twice?
Only problem with doing this, is your goals are going to change. Right now you are looking for under 300hp but when that hybrid is done chances are you want 400 plus. Choose a turbo kit that allows you to upgrade very easily. Something like Full Race, SCI, or peakboost which is coming out with a kit for the K series. Good luck |
oh i know! i have a t4 eg with 630whp. 400whp from the k24/k20?? NO WAY- MORE LIKE 700 WHP!!

Re: (bunnyrabbit)
hey bunnyrabbit sorry to be a thread whore but i cant post in for sale yet, is the b16 trans still for sale? my email is bcivichb@msn.com thanks
|
yep- its still for sale man! hit me up

Re: (bunnyrabbit)
If you have the motor like free, put the K24 in simply for more torque because more displacement. Its not cost effective, tho it may be "cheap". Id say turbo your EP3 motor, cause buying and swapping in the crummy K24 aint worth it, cept the TSX motor (is that the a4?)
|
yes-- tsx is A4

TSX has the K24A2. Not the A4. |
thats what i meant-- sorry-- 2 many numbers!
|
Re: (bunnyrabbit)
isnt the CR-V, Pilot and the other SUV have the k24 but with the E-ivtec thing. and the TSX has the real i vtec head? or are they all the same? i know the k20a is the R, a2 is S and a3 is the civic si E-ivtec one
|
Re: (Hype Vtec)
i think it was honda tuning that did a full write-up on a tsx block/rsx-s head build up. They said it is how the k20 should come from the factory. ill try to find it if you want more info.

Bunnyrabbit feel free to send those injectors anytime now. Year long wait should be enough. Scammer!
