k20a2 head on a k20a3 block
i was thinking of an idea of a k20a2 head on a k20a3 block.
is it possible to do. because the k20a2 has more power than the k20a3. i would go for a complete swap but i have an auto tranny. and the k20a2 has a six speed tranny. or if any one has conveted a k20a2 into an auto base model please could send me some info. i cant sell my car so it is what i can add to it to make it more powerful. i might just add headers, intake, and exhaust. which ever is best. any help would be great. any other things i could do to my car to help give it more speed would be great to know. thanks for your help |

Putting the k20a2 head on the a3 block doesnt work the same way as putting the b16 head on the b20 block. I havent heard of anyone doing it and being really happy with it, there are just to many differences in the block.

your best bet would just be to swap in a whole K20A2 as well as the tranny. you would probably be wasting more money into the head swap and not get as much gains as you would with a whole K20A2.

do it i think it would help you out some you would go from v tec on one cam to v tec on both cams my bro has an ep3 with the stock a3 and we have an extra a2 head laying around so we think we might do that swap just to make the car quicker its just his daily driver

man if you want good K-series info get off H-t https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif ...this swap can be done, and its the major difference between the k20a3 and k20a2. This would give your motor true I-vtec and a good increase in power. Althought with the tranny I've never seen an auto K20a2.

If your going to put the A2 Head on the A3 block them go ahead and get yourself a A2 Crank as thats probably the biggest difference on both motors.

And pistons, and oiling, and rods....
It's a catch-22, mainly. The high cam of the A2 needs high revs for best results, but the stock A3 block can only be revved so high while staying safe. By the time you hit redline and have to shift, the rpms will probably be below the vtec crossover. It's a nice idea, and can work better if you spend more money and effort on building & tuning, but the head swap alone isn't as beneficial as it should be. |
I did the A2 headswap on my ep. It made 182whp on the dyno but i still have the 5spd tranny and other than putting down good power for a head swap it was slow on the street and the track. By having the 5spd i would always shift out of vtec and loose a lot of power. So i would suggest if you do the headswap get a 6 spd too. I decided to go turbo to help out a bit with my shifting out of vtec and its pretty fast for a stock bottom end and headswap.
