K20/K24 Timing Chain Problem
 

Alright guys, I've got a good one for you.

While trying to clay my motor to figure out how far we can run the cam angle with my Kelford B2's the timing chain keeps jumping off the intake cam gear and throwing everything off. So far we have verified correct chain (brand new K24 88 link), correct K24 tensioner guide, correct K24 chain guide, crankshaft sprocket, as far as we can tell, is the same between the K20 and K24. Tried both anyways and still no help. Using a brand new PRB timing chain tensioner as well. The whole problem acts like the chain is too long because we can't get the tensioner to even touch the tensioner guide if we take the slack out with our hands. Also, the deck height has been checked is good as well.

Any thoughts? Anything we aren't thinking off? Thanks in advance!!!

And just for good measure if anyone is running Wiseco 87mm 12.5:1 pistons and the Kelford B2's, how far are you running your cam advance? Just for an idea. I still want to clay to be 100%.

UPDATE: For whatever reason the tensioner is able to maintain contact on the tensioner guide, but it is too far out for the the ratchet to lock it from coming back and releasing too much slack.

Well I did some more digging and the chain that my Acura dealer ordered me was for the newer TSX with the K24Z3. A few guys I've talked to mentioned the block casting is a little bit different so maybe the chain is different, as well. Part numbers are different from the Z series engine and the A series engine. Anybody else have some knowledge on this?

Well here it is gents. Got the new chain and guide in this afternoon and low and behold the problem is fixed.

Acura either gave me the wrong chain or Honda packaged a chain wrong. Can't believe either actually happened, but oh well. I confirmed it was the chain by using the old guide as well and the problem was still resolved.

On an additional note. I ordered the 14401-PPA-004 chain and Honda still sent the 14401-R40-A01 chain. So it is confirmed that you can use the newer chain and it still works just fine.

Hi, I'm replacing my chain on a 2003 accord 2.4L engine. I've put new chains guides tensioner etc.. But for some reason I'm not getting any compression in any cylinders. To me it sounds like it's still out of time so I was thinking if the chain or cam sprocket I got are wrong. I saw in your post the chain should have 88 links, do you happen to know how links should go from left to right cam sprokets. The old chain was stretched beyond belief (5-6teeth off) the car ran good prior just would stall at every stop. It was throwing the all mighty P-0341 code. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi guys I wanna know that, can i replace my honda crv k20 timing chain kit with crv k24 timing chain kit?, is there any difference cause here in Botswana is though to find k20 timing chain kit

No you cannot. The K20 timing chain, front guide and rear tensioner guide are completely different for a K24. They will not interchange.
