Honda Civic Type S 2005 Gearbox
Hello Honda friends , I'm willing on buying a used Honda Civic Sport 2005 Hatch (EP3 I think they are called) and all of them are 5 speed . Does the 5 speed transmission is motorway/highway friendly ? Can you make road trips at high speeds (120km/74mph) ? Wont I have much RPM at 120km/74mph ? Is it loud at high speeds ? I'm considering also the fuel economy as its a 5 speed and at high speeds maybe have high RPM . Please anyone owns that car please inform me about highway use and noise . Thank you very much . Take care .

I just picked up my 02 Si Hatch and yes the highway RPMs are very high, I'm happy with the car otherwise but it is definitely something to consider. I'm always looking for 6th gear since I also drive a Focus SVT...

Ah, sorry man. Not as disappointed as me - I already bought one. But honestly I'll live with it, it revs at about 3200 rpms@ 70-75 if I'm not mistaken. Just have to get used to it. I'll pay attention on the way home today to be sure. You could always swap out the gearbox. The newer SI's are 6 speed.

Hello friend , I had a FN2 2006 and I dont really like the egg style shape .... I dont know if your rpms arr correct but at 70mph at 3200 that would be great ....

Sorry that would be kph for sure not mph .. Does it get good fuel economy on 100 kph ??? I dont want to wear out the engine at high rev plus it would be annoying

People have swapped in a sixth gear if it’s too annoying for you. I have the Type R engine and tranny, which has the six speed, though its sixth gear is just as high as the five speed’s. I also have a Magnaflow exhaust and above 75 mph, everything is a bit nuch. But just put in a better stereo and all is well. 😀
it’s one of the negatives of the car definitely, but not a deal killer, especially given current prices on them.
