Re: Going Turbo on my DC5 (PogiDC5)

I have heard excellent things about the HKS kit with front mount and putting a k-pro in with it. Then Just get an exhaust to work with it and you should be good as long as you don't boost the hell out of it out of it from the get go.

Seeing as though you dont seem to be an expert in the forced induction field, i highly suggest RESEARCHING!!!!!!!!!

Get a kit, its easier, sure its more expensive but you typically have everything you need. Sometimes buying used parts is a bad idea. Not sure about the K20 motor yet but there might be CARB legal kits that you need in cali if you get pulled over by the po-po

you should check out what the people on ephatch and clubrsx do. Do some extensive researching!

Oh and no matter what you will need to find someone that can TUNE!! With out that your work is useless.

Re: Going Turbo on my DC5 (PogiDC5)

Start adding shit up, 2.5 G's is nothing. I spent that on Engine management, tuning, and an exhaust.

If you really believe that 2 Grand is a lot, stick to basic bolt ons. What happens if something goes wrong? Ever price out a bottom end? Turbo is not for everyone and based upon your first post, my advice is stay away until you research and learn a lot.

if you cant afford to pay more than 4000, leave your car stock or just get boltons.

I thought no turbo kit was carb legal.
If so, would you mind listing them? thanks!

Re: Going Turbo on my DC5 (PogiDC5)

heres some stuff your going to need....

Intercooler
All Intercooler piping
Blow off valve
Turbo
Wastegate (if your turbo does not have an internal one)
Turbo manifold
Downpipe
Full exhaust
Injectors
K-Pro (if you want your setup to last for a little while)
All Oil lines/fittings + you need to drill a hole in your oil pan for the return
Larger Fuel Pump
A GOOD TUNE

This stuff is optional I guess
Thicker head gasget
Boost controller
All Guages
Catch can
Pistons, Rods (for when you want more power)

Thats all I can think of right now, but im pretty sure theres more stuff.

They can be carb leagal, doesn't make them legal though. GReddy is known for CARB legal kits, but in states like CA it is illegal to have a BOV dispersing exhausted air into the atmosphere (even though its before it is exhaust.. go figure). So its really the other aspecs of the turbo systems that will make you fail or viable for a ticket in most states.

As for the posters question. Since you don't want to use a "wack" kit and save money, I would go talk to a shop that does boosted applications and see if you can part together a system with them. The one item I would reccomend regardless of your setup is Hondata KPro for FM and tuning.

It would be easier and sometimes cheaper to just get a kit since the parts will work together and you get support for putting it on (if you're doing the work yourself). Stay away from CyberNation kits though. Even though they produce, they are low quality ... you can do much better. GReddy, HKS, Full-Race, Turbonetics, etc..

save up and buy the kit

Re: Going Turbo on my DC5 (ProjeKt)

a custom kit is always going to cost more than a premade one. you're going to have to face the cost of fabrication, parts that may not always work, and hours of tuning.

and tuning is not cheap.

Depends on the application how much boost your going to run, what your power goals are how fast you want the turbo spooled. There are alot of questions that need to be answered before someone can tell you that. Anything ballbearing is going to be good though.

Dude you have ALOT of research to do before you go boost. It is 1000 alone for K pro which you need to have on a custom kit because E manage sucks balls so does gaurdian from cybernation. Then a turbo manifold is going to be easily 900 bucks for a good one you can pick up a cheaper one for alot less but it is going to be coming out of a kit that someone is parting out. If you really want to boost that bad just go buy a used greddy kit on clubrsx buy Kpro get it tuned that will run you like 3000 roughly. That is probably as cheap as it will come.

Re: Going Turbo on my DC5 (PogiDC5)

no offense but you need to do some reasearch. search HT and CLUBRSX. Than check your bank statement. If you think 2.5k is a lot...lol well just dont do it. I initially thought i could go FI with 3k...im pushing 7k now after kpro, tuning, bolt ons...etc etc

Re: Going Turbo on my DC5 (silver comet)

like everyone else is sayin, do your research, i did the whole custom kit thing and mine ended up being a lil over 7 , if you dont have the moola then dont do it just now, save up till you can get something that youll be happy with and will last for a little while , dont go off and buy jon boys kit from his D16 he finally decided to sell because you want thing right here right now, be patient it will all come and good luck
