DC5 Type R build help

I recently purchased a 03 DC5 Type R and want to build it. The problem is I have been out of the Honda game for damn near 20 years and have no clue what the platform is capable of now days. Way back then I owned a 98 ITR and a few Si's and knew all there was to know. I could use some help on what direction to go as far as N/A or Turbo and to be pointed in the right direction as far as reputable shops in the Austin Tx. Area (im ok with shipping the car if there isn't a anyone local to do the job right). I have done some obsessing this week on the 4 piston website and i don't think it makes any sense to spend 20k on a 400hp engine, even though I feel like a 450whp N/A build with ITB's would be perfect. Below is a list of what i want and don't want, hopefully im making sense to someone in here.

Located in Austin TX

In my head, the perfect setup would be a N/A all motor 500hp setup with ITB's but not only do i not want to spend 20k i don't think its possible.

What I want
-I want a car that looks as good as it runs. I really like the clean simple look of N/A cars and am NOT a fan of crowded engine bays (like most turbo setups that ive seen) I really like to keep things simple.
- something that is going to hook decently on R888's on the street. Back in the day most Turbo setups seemed completely unusable as they seemed to make too much power for a FWD car and just spun through 4th gear and that's NOT what I want
-I attend some occasional 1/4 mile track events and would like to be able to bolt on some Drag radials and have the potential to run 10's (not sure if thats even possible) but i feel like the car needs to be capable of 10's or trap in the 140's to have enough power to make it enjoyable for me
-It has to be capable of beating bolt on mustangs, camaros, vettes, M4's, GTR's etc.

What I don't want
-Completely cluttered engine bay
-Unusable power
-An unreliable car
-A build that doesn't suit the car well
-anything with alot of maintenance
-Anything thats going to de value the car

What i need to figure out
-What will a 340NA hp motor trap and run in this car approx?
-What kind of power i need to run 10's
-What is a good shop that can help me achieve what im trying to do?
-What parts or businesses are the ones to use and the ones to stay away from?

Re: DC5 Type R build help

Most of your questions are K series engine related, which I have knowledge in (two EP3s, and a high comp K24 Frankenstein build in progress.)

I have yet to see a N/A K series exceed 300 HP. I'm sure someone's done it, but the comp ratio would have to be off the charts and would compromise the reliability of your car. Stock DC5Rs run around 210 hp, with bolt ons and a good tune you could feasibly push it to 250. If you're set on NA, I'd recommend you build or source a high compression 2.4L K24 block (like from a TSX) for the bump in torque. High compression ITB K24s tickle the 280-290 mark iirc. Your K20A is one of the highest revving K motors around (9k rpms). The K24 is a longer block, so it's not square stroke, and you're going to lose some revs (8200 iirc) but gain a lot of mid and low power. Regardless, anything past 280 hp you're going to need nos or FI. The K20A you have would be better than a K24 for boost due to it's higher revving and square stroke, but that's up to you I guess. k24s will still take boost, but not to such extreme RPMs.

Turbos don't have to be cluttered. Doing away with the stock airbox, sidewinder turbo kits really look sharp.

You may also look into superchargers. Jackson Racing Super Chargers (now closed I think, but lightly used still available) Makes one of the cleanest super charger for K engines. Just goes in place of your intake manifold. You would need to modify power steering and your serp belt, but I've seen 450-500 hp supercharged K20s.

The biggest speed increase available to you is weight reduction. In the RSX facebook page, we have a user that has a 04 typeS with bare bones stripped interior, exhaust, and ram air intake. Car weighs in at 1850 lbs and runs mid 10's NA at around 210 hp. #ivandiet

Hope this helps.

Re: DC5 Type R build help

It really does and yea after some reading this week it looks like there is no hope to do what I want N/A. I also had no idea these cars could make as much power as they do with a stock block and turbo kit, fucking crazy. Looks like Turbo is going to be the way to go.

Sidewinder turbo is, in my opinion, the cleanest setup. Very cool layout, being able to see the turbo like that.
