D.I.Y Honda Key Conversion
So I finally finished the last of my Honda conversion. Woohoo. I bought a Honda Accord key and a blank Acura key I had cut and then cut it to fit inside the Accord Key fob...
So here is the new key. It's from a Honda Accord and it's been modified to use my acura key http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3937.jpg So first I took it over to ace hardware and had my key cut http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3940.jpg Then I took a razor blade and cut open the old key to remove the immobilizer http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3941.jpg there it is in the center http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3942.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3944.jpg now I open the new key fob and pull out the factory immobilizer for the accord http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3945.jpg put the RSX one in the accord key http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3946.jpg and BAM! Now I have my new key and a blank spare! http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3948.jpg now time to program the new fob Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Within 1 to 4 sec. , push the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the receiver under the audio unit. Within 1 to 4 sec. , turn the ignition switch OFF. Within 1 to 4 sec. , turn the ignition switch ON (II). Within 1 to 4 sec. , push the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the receiver under the audio unit. Within 4 sec. , turn the ignition switch ON (II). Within 1 to 4 sec. , push the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the receiver under the audio unit. Confirm you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators. Within 1 to 4 sec., push the transmitter lock or unlock button again. Within 10 sec. , aim the remaining transmitters (up to two additional ones) whose codes you want to store at the receiver, and press the transmitter lock or unlock buttons. Confirm that you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators after each transmitter code is stored. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and pull out the key. Confirm proper operation of the transmitters. Then also bought this. bad pictures but you get the idea... the back half of the key fob I ordered finally came in today woohoo! Straight from Japan http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3962.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3964.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/100_3967.jpg ENJOY! |

Re: D.I.Y Honda Key Conversion
This should technically work with an ep3 correct? Since I'm buying extra keys anyways...

Re: D.I.Y Honda Key Conversion
Great write-up!
A couple questions, Did you have to buy another acura key or could you have used the one that you opened to remove the immobilizer? Or did you just buy another one to have a backup key that worked? Also what kind of modifications did you have to make to the key to get it to fit in the fob? And did you just epoxy it in there or what? I've been wanting to do something like this with my CRX by getting a key fob like you did and the keyless module but I always figured if I mod'd the keyfob the new key wouldn't fit in the fob well or it would be flimsy. Any more info you have would be great. |

I cut it apart with a dremel but I apparently forgot to take photos... Just match up to the old key you pull out. And yes I used JB Weld to glue the key in place. |
Re: D.I.Y Honda Key Conversion
I want to do this with my 99 Accord but I cannot find a key like this one with that blade that you have. Where did you get that? And how much was it?
|
Re: D.I.Y Honda Key Conversion
do you have a part number for the accord key? .or know what years i should be looking for?

Re: D.I.Y Honda Key Conversion
The key should work, as long as whomever cuts the key does it properly.
I'd look into a TL-S blank, - though. Looks cooler and is a switchblade. I've had mine over two years now and it's still folding up fine. And yes, the programming is as annoying as the directions make it look. |
