Clutch replaced. Car won't shift into 5th when not running.

I just had the clutch replaced on my 2006 Acura RSX Type-S 6 speed. While checking out I noticed on the paperwork that the technician stated that the car won't shift into fifth gear, that it is a synchro problem and it's not their fault. I take it for a spin and all 6 gears shift fine. When the car is powered off, it will shift into every gear except 5th.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't like this when I dropped it off. Is there something they could have done to cause this or maybe something needs adjusted? They didn't even point it out to me so I'm super http://forums.clubrsx.com/images/smilies/mad_color.gif about it. The technician was gone for the day so I couldn't get any more details. Thanks.

That is very weird, although I did google 'rsx 5th gear lockout' and found a few other people complaining about similar issues. It could just be quirk of your car that you didn't notice before.

What happens if you go into 6th first and then try to go back into 5th? Same thing?

It was locked out no matter what I did. But was fine when car was running. It wasn't like this before because I would sometimes shift into 5th when I would turn off the car and set the parking brake.

If I had to guess I would speculate that maybe something weird is going on with the shift linkage. They would have had to disconnect that and reconnect it in order to do replace the clutch.

They would not have opened up the transmission under normal circumstances for just a clutch replacement. I don't see how it could be synchro related either, because nothing is rotating in the transmission if the car is off.
