Default ABS sensor

So, my $150 mistake last night was lightly tapping my front left ABS sensor in with a rubber mallet because it didn't look like it was seated correclty. I had originally taken the knuckle off for bearings, springs, breaks and rotors, calipers, lower ball joints...blah blah blah. Got everything bolted up and went to the rotor by hand. It spun backwards ok with a lil grinding and residual rust falling off. No biggie. Spun it forward. I should have stopped at the light cracking sound but figured it was rust again. Turns out the ABS sensor was begin chewed up. Rear sensors are roughly $40 and fronts $150. After all that my question is if the sensors are all just magnets and copper wire that send a pulse down the wire can I splice my own? Instead of spending $150, could I go to a pull-a-part and get a sensor that fits and just splice the pink and white wires to my original connector? Or is there some big difference in the number of turns in the mysterious wires inside the sensor that makes that big of a difference from fronts to backs? Sorry, that was more than one question.

The car is an 02 RSX-S.
