Calling all TECHS: Lets talk trans options

The Ep3 is asking for a new trans coming up soon. It grinds at the top of third and with these new clutch problems I am having It is about time I consider what Transmission to bolt on.

I replaced my hydraulic system and hard line to the Master clutch and even though shifting has improved, I am still grinding into gears and the car jerks forward with the clutch disengaged (clutch pressed) and the car in first at zero mph.

I am convinced the system is bled well because the clutch does not stick to the floor and feels fine, other than the first inch going down feels sloppy. I believe it's the clutch, even though the clutch does not slip and grabs on just fine.

This car is great, hats off Honda but there are improvements to be done. I have the option of a 5spd or 6 and am interested in your opinions in what route to take. I like the idea of an OEM clutch. This car needs to be reliable and have LSD at this point. Its going to be used for street driving and occasional track events. It's staying N/a.

This will be my first time doing trans work on a FWD honda and looking forward to it. I'm putting in new motor and trans mounts too. My question is where do I find a good trans with no issues at a reasonable price. I am only doing this job once. Also any other input or information is welcome!

Thanks everybody!

well for the 5spd to 6spd answer that truly depends on what you plan on doing. A lot of boosted guys love the 5spd for the longer gear ratios where the NA guys love the quicker gears of the 6spd.

honestly local junk yards, ebay and clubrsx will be the easiest to locate one...i personally switched to the 6spd type-s trans, as said above really depends on what path you want to take as far as boost/NA setups go...i fully built a high compression motor for the ep.

OMG Russssss!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude miss ya!!!! And you got an EP3 :)

When I had my EP3, I got the 6spd from the Type-S and it was so much better. If was FI, I would probably want to stay with the 5 spd depending on what type of racing I would be doing.

I may reuse the current ep3 trans as its not too bad, although slightly grinds at the top of 3rd and put in a oem rsx type s flywheel and clutchmasters stage 2 clutch (6 puck clutch). Im getting into autocrossing and this will be my first time I am pulling the trans on this car so i dont mind thrashing the current trans a bit:)
