Default anybody ever see 9000 rpm due to a mis-shift? need advice.

its my girls type S

I have a turbo LS...anyway

I was gettin on the highway in 3rd in vtec about 6500-7000 and I dunno how in the hell I did this, shifted straight into 2nd. the 2nd I saw it jump up I slamed the clutch back in and pulled off the next exit and pulled into a parking lot.

I listened closely and I didn't hear any valve tap or nothing, I heard the injectors pulsing, I heard a noise that sounded a little like air pulsing around the intake manifold...but other than that I didn't hear much.

I drove it around for about an hour or so after that, I didn't hear anything unusual, didn't hear anything different in vtec...

She just got it used, its an 02 with 44,000miles, but it was acura pre-owned certified, came with a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. Thing is I heard they have some kind of black box in the ECU thats basically a datalogger and could tell that it had been revved that high. Supposely this person I know blew 2 motors and they could tell by looking at this "box" in the ECU that it was over revved and wouldn't honor replacing the motor and made them pay at their expense..

Anyway, what do you believe needs to be checked, if its running fine I don't want to mess with it, but if you think I should pull the valve cover and feel the lash on all the rockers, or see if it tore the timing belt/chain (not sure what k series has) I guess I should check that?

I've done several valve adjustments on b series, ...I'm building another b18b right now with forged internals...

I'm not new to cars or motors or anything, but the k series is something I never checked out so I'm not sure what I need to worry about or look into.

nothing to worry about. i'm very sure the type-s can touch 9k without hurting anything.

ive hit 9k on my s several times slowing down dropping to 2nd on the track it should be fine if mine is

yea i've done it once or twice too..u got a rev limiter so u should be fine if u didnt then u would prob have problems...

i would only worry if it happens again and if it hit 10k. that would freak me out a little.

Here was a misshift in my 5R one night as recorded by my A'pexi RevSpeedMeter, adrenalin owns. Though I had no problems whatsoever. Was right back on the car hard.

224kmh? That's about 139mph. Was that a misshift going from 5-6 and accidently hitting 4th?

Rev limiters do nothing if you grab the wrong gear - the drivetrain will still pull the motor far past the limiter regardless of whether or not the fuel is cut.

Yes...I rev-limiter does not protect against mechical over-rev.

You should be thankful you didn't blow your **** up.
And those black boxes only have a certain amount of memory. 40-50 ignition cycles is common.

yeah man they have a freeze box that holds info if you rev it to high... just happened to me but thankfully the guy that was going to tow my ep3 asked about that and came over with a scanner and erased it from there... if your taking it in talk to a mechanic about that because they should have a scanner to clear your ecu and all that funn stuff.... good luck man prob nothin hondas can handle that...

No the speed was the highest recorded speed at the time. I did the 3-2 crap. Was just pumped up as there were about 10 of us battling it out here on extended runs of like 20km at a time, it happened when taking off from one of the lights. I was battling this Toyota Starlet with boost and he always would have me by the tiniest of margins on the launch (just don't launch really), but that night I finally said ***** it and got a decent launch from the light and was ahead of him and I wanted to put him back as I would always play catch up and pass him, and I was too excited and did the 3-2 SCREAM LIKE A BANSHEE.

I've done that like 3 times in my s2000. The head from the k20a2 is very similar to the f20c. Only difference is everytime i've done it i was already at 9. So it probably got up to about 12. Next investments gonna be some upgraded valve springs.

9k should be no prob for a type-s.....occasionally! to do it on a regular basis, upgraded valve springs, retainers would help relieve the stress....

how's the car now? if something is wrong, then you should have noticed by now.

imo, i find it very difficult to shift from 3rd to 2nd "accidentally." it's an awkward motion.

as awkward as this may seem. believe it or not a lot of people actually mishift from 3rd to 2nd.

the car is fine so far...

Its not that awkward, if you pull it with your hand normal you tend to pull towards yourself. usually I shift 4th and turn my hand around backwards so it goes towards the other direction, but I didn't this time.

i've miss shifted before but all those times i couldn't get it in gear. my 2nd gear is wack.

In a quick swerve trying to avoid a drunk driver I sort of lost my motor skills and went 5th to 1st at 60mph. No idea what rpm it spun to but it sounded just like an indy car. It barked the tires as the motor slowed the car down and I up shifted.
Probably 10k plus.
That was 300 miles ago, no issues since.

when i first got my car new i mis shifted as i just got out of a 8500rpm Z6 powered 94 si so i was used to doing highway rolls from 60 droppin it into second.....im hard headed....so it took me a few times to figure out that i can only hit 3rd when im on the highway at speeds over 60....soon ill have hondata, and a type s head...keeping the 5 speed...has longer gears i believe over the type s specially with a 8500rpm red line on it...should prover to be quite a bit quicker from a 60 roll...as ill be able to hit second again and get a quick launch...anyone with a A2 head complete for sale?
