Just replaced my clutch due to Burning...

What are the Top Reasons why a Clutch Burns...?

No Doubt I feel i am over Revving going up hill, and sometimes between Shifts...

i also have a feeling that my negligence to maintain my rides fluids might have added to the burning clutch perhaps...

i would love to hear every ones experiences regarding this manner...

i found one big i do that scorched my clutch

i downshift a TON!!!!

someone told me downshifting burns the clutch, i agree...

i defo ride the clutch even going uphill, to me this is the most retarded thing i do

but i also downshift A LOT!!!!! hhaaha

i will still downshift, but no more stop and going uphill driving

how high do you rev to get going from start?
some people rev a little too high everytime, which adds up if you drive everyday like that

if i am not launching, and i dont do it much

3K RPM, very normal

but i think i understand more now...

these are my reasons i know why i smoked out my clutch

1. SUPER OVER REVVING going Uphill (When i first smelled a burning clutch)

2. I downshift A LOT!!!! its so fun, seriously if you drive a DC5S, why not take it hard

3. If my clutch is HOT, i be still making it MOLTEN!!!

Obviously i love taking to redline, here and there...

but seriously

i downshift ALOT!!!

would this be the biggest killer for me?

but only time and first time i smelled my burning clutch was over revving going uphill

I'm on my 4th engine.... 5th transmission in a K24 SUPERCHARGED DC5 yet I'm still on my first aftermarket clutch... I **** pound the **** out of this car, I downshift everywhere, I race on the track, (i know bad) and the streets, I love taking this car to it's fullest potential and then pushing it past and yet I am still on ONE clutch lol

You must just be to clutch happy... slip it to much instead of quick grabbing and etc. It's ok it's a learning experience and screw it as long as you're having fun that's what counts in my opinion.

i usually try to start of around 1200rpm when i first start off in first gear and if i down shift i rev match my gears to what ever it would be going into a lower gear. i find people have bad habits resting there foot on the clutch when there clutch should not be touched. when im driving normal in my 08 si i some times skip gears if im on a bit of a down grade to help from pushing clutch in and out so much. i never sit at the stop light in first with clutch in wears the throw out bearing faster. anyway i have 160,xxxkms on mine and sees 8k rpm 5 or 6 times a week and my clutch is just as if the car was new. thats my 2cents..

To OP: Was this car your first with a manual transmission?
Learning to drive stick for the first time can take years off the life of the clutch.

okay i knew its not the down shifting then

its more of my Uphill driving habits...

i noticed my clutch started gong, when i started taking my car to Dodgers stadium...

my clutch was always fine before that...

what after market clutch do you have? and a matching flywheel or stock?

sounds fun, i love my DC5S, its freaking fun , fast, quick, handles easay , just like a honda always is

and i dont rest my foot on the clutch, that is just donkey *****

part of the luxury of having a manual transmission is to idle at a stop...

but right now i think i know what really happened...

my clutch never started to burn until 3 years back, when i first smelled my clutch burn going to Dodgers stadium...

i am thinking it might not be my daily driving habits, but several repeating severe over heating/burning my clutch that probably gave my clutch away even more and more...

i gotta admit, my clutch feels really great, its seriously been years, sinces its been this great...extremely happy i replaced my clutch...

number one thing i know i must change is when going uphill in stop and go traffic, keep it a a low rev and dont ride the clutch...or just avoid it all together if possible

i am starting to doubt my downshifting is the biggest cause, its no doubt several serious incidents that exacerbate the clutch to being fully burnt out...

i use to drive a 84 Toyota SR pickup...

haha its not the same,

when you own a DC5, you wanna drive it, not take it out for a picnic

but i do notice i drive both cars differently going uphill...

i am trying to break it down, every experience i had when i smelled my clutch burn, and the recurring theme was, it was always at Dodgers Stadium...and even when i dont drive my DC5, i can smell other cars clutches burning...

anyone wanna elaborate on this more? thanks

naw, its not rocket science, i just drive my car hard... great thing is ever since i replaced my clutch, my car feels brand new

i have also taken my DC5 cross country, once... i am sure my clutch was running hot that journey too...

+1. And also use that beater for driving to Dodger games, in traffic, uphill, instead of the DC5, you know. Basicly use that beater to practice driving a manual, instead of driving the DC5 (you know, the DC5 that you would normally use to drive to MLB Dodger games).

And once you learn how to drive, then get a good aftermarket clutch for your car. Was it a DC2 that you own, or was it a DC5? I can't remember. Anyway, then you can use it to drive to the Angels games. Or was it Dodgers games? I can't remember. Anyway, you get the picture.

yeah starting on the hills is hard on them especially if you have your friends in the car.

starting with 3k is not very normal to me. a bit too much.
i try to start under 1500. unless uphill, then i'll probably be around 2k

off course of 1st gear its to a crawl...cmon give me a break here fellas, i know how to drive, but i dont think i know how to let up when my clutch is hot...

i seriously burned my clutch going uphill

i can admit i was riding the clutch at above RPMs of 5K...this was the first time i smelled my clutch burn...

my clutch was fine after this...but then repeatedly i would go the stadium and do the stupid routine again...

its not my daily driving habits, its my uphill shenanigans are the main result ...

its no doubt i have severely burned my clutch over a repeating course over the past 3 years, since i started to take my car to the stadium...

prior to me driving to the stadium, i have never smelled my clutch burn...

seriously, a honda is the easiest type of car to drive...

i have driven many manual cars from

MR2, EG, EK, DC2, EF, CRX, tons of rides, but haha i never took them uphill in stop and go traffic...

you guys must have never been to Dodgers Stadium

yeah, its a biznitch... especially when they are all above 200 pounds...

i just dint feel confident, so i revved a bit hard, and higher...

in hind sight, that is where i done fack up...

next time, never again, hahah...

DC5S i feel is not made to go uphill in stop and go with maximum load...

the first time i thrashed it , i knew it was due to riding the clutch and over revving...

i just wanted to here more opinions...

but no doubt, it was not caused by my daily driving, but a series of serious burning clutch situations...

my clutch is feel great now tho, its been about 3 years, that my car has felt this quick
