16 inch rims on an 05 rsx-s? Can it be done?

Do 16 inch wheels(aftermarket) fit the 05-06 Rsx-S?

If so, what offset do you have to run in order to make them fit? Will they clear the brakes?

also do the 02-04 stock 16inch wheels fit the 05-06 S?Anyone on here running 16's on their 05-06 rsx-s?

sure they will fit! just make sure they are the same lug pattern, and ur good to go! and offset, depends on if u want that flush look or just a regular +45 look

im not really good with weels and offsets can someone explain how the offset works and what is the stock offset btw?

thanks, so anyone here running 16's on their 05-06 type s?

Uhkordguy 10-11-2006 08:06 PM

16's would be fine as long as you're running tires that will make up for the difference. 215-50-16 is close.

ALL 02-04 RSX-S's came with 16's stock. In terms of brakes and wheel hubs, nothing changed from 02-04 to 05-06.

So yes, many, many people have 16's on their RSX's.

~Actually yes that's true, the 05-06 base models come with 16's. They look nice and yes the tires gotta make up for the gap . So if your thinking on putting 16, ya gotta get some thick tires. But I think 16's look kinda small for the RSX's don't you think? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

yeah thats what I am worried about, and yes i know that all 02-04 came with 16's. I meant to say the 05-06 S models.

Why exactly do i have to get thicker tires to compensate? why cant i just get the normal thickness what would be wrong about that?

~I just think that getting 16's with some 45 or 40 series tires will leave you with some gap. That's what I have been told otherwise i would've picked up these 16' rota GT3 with 205/50/16 ya know

Seriously, IT WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM with a 16" wheel.

I will quote myself:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">ALL 02-04 RSX-S's came with 16's stock. In terms of brakes and wheel hubs, nothing changed from 02-04 to 05-06. </TD></TR></TABLE>

So whatever fits on an 02-04 S will fit IDENTICAL on an 05-06 S.

A thicker profile will be necessary to avoid speedometer errors.

You can also go with a lower profile (that is, smaller overall circumference) and gain effectively shorter gearing for quicker acceleration, but with slightly worse gas mileage.

I think 16's look fine.

yeah that is what i wanted to produce, which is smaller overall wheel for better performance (shorter gearing).

Why will my gas milage be worse though?

BarracksSi 10-13-2006 09:13 AM

Because the motor will be spinning faster for any given road speed.

It'll be hard to tell, though, because since the speedo will be off, too. 70 mph at whatever RPM will read the same no matter what wheel size you use, but the actual road speed (like what radar would read, or your speed in comparison to other cars) will be slower.

The speedometer & odometer only count wheel revolutions and infer, through calculation, the distance traveled. It's calibrated for a specific tire circumference. An extreme example would be putting on go-kart wheels; the speedo would read 70 mph, but the car may only be traveling 20.

The good thing about smaller tires is that the speedometer will be off on the slow side -- meaning that if a cop is going to pick on someone because of a 1-mph difference, your speedometer error will put you on the "safe" side of the law. You may think you're driving 77, but the cop will see you driving at 74. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

You could get crazy and put on 15" SSR Comps, Team Dynamics Pro Race 1, or Pro Race 1.2 wheels with 225/50 or 225/45 tires, too. Those are the only 15" wheels that I know will fit on a Type-S.

Re: (thrty8street)

The gas mileage decrease is a misconception. Because you have a different final drive ratio, and your speedo/odometer can't compensate, it will read that you've travelled a certain distance based on stock tire diameter. But in actuality, because your overall tire diameter is smaller, you will not have travelled what the odometer tells you. This makes it seem like you are getting decreased gas mileage because you are using the odometer reading to calculate gas mileage.

Although you will have slightly higher revs due to the smaller tire diameter, this will not be enough to change mileage significantly because you are only at partial throttle. My friend had a 4.9 final drive in his gsr and got the same mileage, same was true when I put in a type-r trans, also no change in mileage.

Well, a slight change may not make a huge difference, but it will change it. If gear ratios played no part in gas mileage, then there would be no reason to gear the HF's and CX's and such with such long gearsets. But they do, and that's how they squeeze a few extra MPG out of them. It's really all about freeway driving is where you're gonna notice this.

The lower the RPM it takes to maintain a certain speed, your MPG is going to increase vs a car that does so at a few hundred RPMs higher (assuming both cars are equal otherwise).

I had a set of 15x8" Volk TE-37's and the fit on my Type-S without problems.

Awesome. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif I'll add those to my short list.

The 15x8's would make awesome drag rims for the RSX. There is a set for sale now, as well (my old set).

Your FS thread shows 16x8's;

No rubbing? Even with that offset? What tire size were you running?
