"Good luck Honda from Porsche. See you on the other side."

Funny anecdote for the historical record :)

Usually, makers go to dealerships just like regular customers, and the rival carmaker is none the wiser. Except these days, with ever more information being stored in the vehicle's black box, a rogue customer is easier to spot.

Porsche realized that this particular customer was Honda's NSX development team after the GT3 was recalled to fix an issue with the engine connecting rods. When the car was returned, Robinson remembers, the team found a message written under the engine cover: "Good luck Honda from Porsche. See you on the other side."

To develop the $157,800 hybrid, the Honda team also bought a McLaren 12C. The car needed to return to the dealership a few times for remedial work, but McLaren didn't quite catch on.

Said Robinson: "They wanted to know, where did you go 205 mph? What track?"

Also, I wonder what Honda did with the cars after finishing the comparison?

I enjoyed the hell out of that when I noticed the article.

The note left on the car by the Porsche team was hilarious, but it's vaguely disconcerting that the Porsche went in for warranty work for a "connecting rod issue."

I guess that's why Honda and Acura are still so attractive for some of us.

$157,800?

That was written by somebody who's never used the on floor configurator. :-)

No kidding. I can't close that website without configuring a 200k car.

Would've been funny if Honda coded something in the ECU to show a troll message when a Porsche tech would plug in their scanner to diagnose an issue.

Maybe something along the lines of "our old titanium rods had no issues :) " or somethin. Honda could put that on their NSX when Porsche buys one.
