Would you buy this ITR?
Pics: https://imgur.com/a/hZXuE
Came across an ITR for sale locally for $4850 (lowest the seller would go) but it's in pretty rough shape
Cons:
*Tranny will likely need replacing. Grinds into 3rd and there's so much play in the transmission you can't tell if you're in gear or neutral
*Some rust starting to show on the body in the door jam areas and in the rear qp
*Rebuilt title from front end collision previously
*Car is sweating/leaking oil from the bottom of the block
*Current owner is the kind of driver that continuously revs the car at a stoplight and does pulls all night and day
Price of the car is $4850USD, body has 150000miles but 2000miles on a rebuilt motor. Tranny matches mileage of the body

Re: Would you buy this ITR?
If you could get the VIN you could check the ITR Registry (and cars history), which is a sticky at the top of the Type R forum.
Doubtful he is the original owner.

He is not. He is probably the 3rd or 4th owner down the line for this vehicle. I checked the registry and it's not registered.

So far, the concensus is no bueno on $4850 with the mods listed? My intention would be to restore the vehicle to worthy condition but it might be more of a costly and timely venture than I may think.
What do you guys reckon this vehicle is worth?

I would buy it at 4k. Get a new motor and tranny. Fix the rust and track it. The most important thing about this car is the chassis aka the unibody. After that, if you wanna restore it you can take your time.
Like most of us, we dont swim on money. Restoring a car takes time.
Do it little by little and enjoy the time spent driving it and restoring it.
All I said applies only if you are:
- mechanically inclined
- patient
- have time
I wrench for a living, and this is the one car I love and enjoy working on. Its a Honda/Acura. Its the easiest thing to work on.

Re: Would you buy this ITR?
If the parts listed are indeed authentic, it's probably worth 5 grand. You could easily sell off a lot of that stuff and recoup a lot of the initial investment. If your goal is to rebuild it and your not mech inclined, I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't want 90% of the stuff on the car and rebuilt engines with issues scare me, so it would be a toss up, but an ITR chassis with a bunch of parts, without much missing has some worth.

Re: Would you buy this ITR?
Rebuilt title due to front end collision.... Probably went jdm front with repairs. Car drives straight I assume.
Rust... Get that fixed right away.
Transmission play or shifter play? Other than 3rd gear grind, most likely need to replace shifter bushing to correct the lost gears.
this car will never be the car collectors are looking for due to high mileage, title status and non matching engine block.
What you can have is a period correct restore-mod import. best part of it will be the guilt free time you take the car out, hit the track or back roads and not worry about wrecking your $20-30k+ garage queen. Or when you take it to cars and coffee and some old guy with his kids ask if this is a real Type R and you can say yes, number 06xx.
Now would I buy at $4850.... Yes, can you pass along your friends informations? I'll worry about finding space in the garage and the wife's reaction later.

Re: Would you buy this ITR?
If the front end was done correctly, I say go for it. Everything you mentioned is fixable and a good body shop can get the rust fixed and the car repainted for a good price.
If this car was local and the front end was done right, it would be in my garage already
