Default What do you think a GT3 CUP Wing Would Look on Our CaRs?

Would you fit one on a street caR or a track caR or none?

You can see a few (albeit poor) photos of Integras with "GT-style" wings in that thread. For a street car, I wouldn't do it. For a dedicated track car, there could indeed be benefits to a proper adjustable racing wing, though the factory ITR wing itself is also functional in its own right.

How would you intend to mount it and achieve the proper angle of attack? The shape of the rear deck, the dimensions, and the mounting points are all very different. Even with a decent amount of custom fabrication, I don't think the results would be very good.

The dimension is not a problem. the killer is the angle of the rear lid or trunk lid. This part need some serious fabrication. But, it can be done. My question is do you think it will look good on our Rs once the fitting is sort out?

I don't understand why you would want to do this? There are better/cheaper options. Did you get the wing for free or something? Can't imagine how much they'd cost.

Even if you had the ability to fabricate the needed pieces to properly mount that thing, how do you propose to test it out? Without wind tunnel testing of some sort, I don't see a way to claim it's more functional than any of the other known spoiler setups used on track going DC's.

With "TechPlot" you can simulate wind tunnels and graph forces etc. its the future now not everything has to be in a physically in a wind tunnel. I started building a model of a Type R to load into techplot So i can see how much a rear diffuser would help. Havn't finished it yet though.

That's pretty interesting, I'd love to see the progress of your model. I too have been wondering what effect a full rear under tray would have on my track car.

I'd have to dig it up, I havn't messed with it in a while. You can buy premade models if you google around. There not Type R's but a dc2 is a dc2. Most models I found were either autocad or 3d studio max. I was devoloping a model in autocad. But It just becoming a pain. I scanned in the front, side, top pictures from the helms. Then copied these 2d images into autocade. Extruded, then union/subtracted the blocks together. This gave me an integra, but I have a lot more work to make it look 100%.

Hi Citrus,

I went to the Techplot website but they seem to keep the price a secret. How much does it cost and is there any decent (and cheap) CFD Freeware/Shareware?

Thanks,
John
