Weight reduction

Just figured it would be a good idea to start a thread listing items for weight reduction. People constantly email me asking how I got my Integra down to 2320 lbs., plus I figure this would be good for future search reference, etc.

If anyone has anything to add, feel free...

Here's your answers Jay...

*front bumper support
*rear bumper support
*ABS system
*switched PS rack to manual Civic CX unit
*ditch OE manifold and cat for a 4-1 w/ test pipe
*remove sound deadening(GSR/LS only)
*remove rear wiper and motor
*shave antenna and remove antenna motor
*driver and pass. air bags
*SRS harnesses and SRS control module
*apexi' WS suspension (total 12lbs. lighter than stock altogether)
*aluminum flywheel(much lighter than stock)
*remove passenger side dash brace(thick ass bar behin dash)
*lightweight rotors
*leightweight wheels
*AEM (lighter than OE intake system)
*remove strut tower bar and rear upper and lower body braces, also considering sway bars.. but this was DRASTICALLY hurt the car's handling and performance
*switch out power door lock actuators for Integra RS units
*spare tire and jack(DUH)
*evap and emissions system and canister (not applicable to all. there is no emissions or inspection here, so I do it.)
*brake dust shields
*exhaust tunnel heat shield

that's about all i can think of right now. you can also pull the radio, heater, A/C, etc.. but that's all creature comforts.

Don't forget swap out seats for some carbon shells... I believe the stockies weigh in at 30lbs each.

Aside from pulling the braces off, all these items should help all racers alike.

Weight reduction helps no matter what. Straight line or curvies..

lexan windows ?! replace the front fenders or hood with CF or Fiberglass. Remove sunroof and replace with a fiberglass insert.

Re: Weight reduction (TRuST)

The one easy one I did was to take out the back trunk lid who cares if people can see in you trunk, saved maybe 8lbs! My carbon fiber hood weighs about 9lbs, saved maybe 25lbs! I love how the r's battery is already small, tech guys at the autocross make fun of it and then I point out how stupid they are for wanting a heavy one! Underdrive pulleys saved me a few pounds and gave HP.

hey Mike K,
I also took off all of my heat shields that under the car from the Cat to the B-pipe will this be dangerous for me, because some people been saying that my fuel lines are right above exhaust system where those heat shields use to be.

The windshield, hood and rear window are very heavy items. If you're serious into weight reduction - lightweight alternatives (i.e. lexan) should be considered.

Lightwieght batteries. I think they're some that weight like about 8-9lbs. the Skunk2 manifold weights less than the stock GSR manifold. Removing the driver usually removes alot of dead weight and switching driver sometimes increase preformance of the car. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif (Just a thought)

Stereotype blasphemies like that just make me sick. Yeah lets just all ignore our girlfriends character, and treat them as objects to own and collect and shower them with slanderous racial remarks... It amazes me as to how you could even get a girlfriend to begin with.

surprised nobody mentioned backseats?

also you got them door panels and glove comparent and rear/passenger seatbelts.
(rear seatbelts could be a good 10lbs there)

heh, or are those just too obvious?

And your gas tank. A full tank on the Integra holds about 80 pounds of gas. Drive around with a quarter tank and you're 60 pounds lighter.

drive naked. That's good for about 10 lbs. That's what I do when I go to the track.

If you take apart your glove box lid there is a metal sheet in between the outside cover and inside box and together with the ECU Brace cover( what ever its called) it is about a pound (according to my bathroom scale)

I do not have any shields either for 1 year now and no problems. The fuel lines do not run there anyways.

Re: Weight reduction (Rboosted717)

What do the back seats weigh? I was thinking of removing them and just laying hatch carpet down where they used to be. They feel liek 30-35 lbs to me. I want to remove the most weight out of the rear cuz its like pulling dead weight. Also, does anyone know what the hatch motor weighs in 98+ integra's. Is their anyway to get rid of that and still be able to open the hatch. peace
