haha, unless you want a stipped, aluminum-color valve cover odn't use it.
get simple green and dilute it 10:1, works for me.

simple green will also strip the paint off too....use plain detergent and water...use a soft brissled tooth brush, let it dry, then use something like Armor all to finish.
One thing is, Armorall attract dirt, so your valve cover will look good but you'll have to do it frequently
