Survivor R restore 00-0512
Found this car locally here in Tucson, AZ. a few good friends helped me do a little research on the car. Looks like the car started out in the Albuquerque / Santa Fe areas and made its way to El Paso before heading to Tucson. During its life the original paint was painted over with Flames and diamond plate graphics, after that the graphics were covered up with a sealer before being resprayed back to the factory PY. The paint looks like it was a "buddy deal". The Car also had a few standard mods for its day as well, not really desirable for what I want the car to be. On the plus side, the car has all matching vin tags with the exception of the front bumper. The motor and Tranny are original to the car as well, not low miles but not excessive at 131,000 either. Looks like possibly nitrous was on the car at some point. The transmission has a slight grind into 3rd and 4th. Still VERY drivable but not perfect. After Paint and Body she will head over to have the engine all freshened up and a tranny rebuild. She needs a little love to bring her back to her full glory but I'm up for the task! Bought the car and dropped it off at the body shop within an hour of having it. stripping the exterior paint down (factory paint, Sealer, Graphics, Sealer, Yellow) to metal and keeping the jams all oem, good thing no-one ever bothered to jam during all these paint sessions! Gonna go back pretty much STOCK on the car with everything. Although Im torn on a nice set of coilovers and some 16" bronze rays. If not it will go ALL ORIGINAL! Gonna need to find a few parts here and there but over all, this will be a fun build and an awesome car to add to the stable!

Been 6 Days since I dropped the car off. These dudes are on a mission! Super pumped on the work put in so far. All the glass has been removed as well as much of the interior panels for access. Pretty much all of the car has been stripped to bare metal. We didn't remove ANY of the finish from the factory jams. We chose to Chemical strip the car as there was so much material on the car we didn't want to put alot of heat into the panels with a grinder and risk warpage. They were never painted during all of the "customization" of the car (thankfully) and still have all of the original vin tags and factory info tags. We will be able to edge and blend the repaint and create a very original looking car!!!! Doesn't look like there is any real damage anywhere on the car. Biggest thing looks like who ever "Rolled" the rear fenders was not very competent and caused a little damage to the lower part of the qtr panels, a I mean VERY little damage. the OEM rear window washer fluid squirter was shaved, not very well thankfully! it was simply fiberglass filled. No welding at all. Very ghetto but for what I want, I'm glad it wasn't done well. We have dug out all of the filler and reworked the metal back into shape! doesn't look like the rear wing is OEM either. there original mounting holes were ghetto filled as well and new holes were drilled. pretty easy fix but damn 760.00 for an oem type R rear wing and another 460 for a lower front spoiler? oh well she's worth it...........
I don't know.....Maybe we should just add a flux capacitor and clear coat now! haha

Is this the car that had a "ghetto" mural paint job down the middle of the car and used to be on chrome rims?! I'm from Santa Fe and remember this car. I believe it also had a comptech supercharger and a huge sound system, at one point.

Haven't Been able to swing by and check on the awesome work being done on the R in a few days. Been out of town. Here are a few shot from earlier in the week when I went by. Got some parts ordered and on the way and looks like they will have some primer played down for a round of blocking VERY soon. Pretty stoked on the progress so far. These guys are on it!

Got a few parts in for the R. Shop slowed down a bit waiting for me to get these parts. These dudes are on a mission. Pretty refreshing to have someone with some drive working on it! Pretty much all the body work is done and should be in full primer in a few days and ready for blocking. In the mean time the custom plates showed up in the mail. Cant wait to mount em!
