Default Spun bearing, how much?

ok so it seems that i have spun a bearing in my motor a little while ago, iv been getting some cash together and was gonna do it my self, but its hard to find a place to do it and time to do it

so my question is how do you guys think it whould cost at a shop, to drop it off, have them dissasemble, replace, bearings, check crank make sure its ok, things like that

like what whould you expect the labor to be on a job like this

eric, TSR is charging me roughly $1200 for the labor being done on my car to give you an idea.

Im assuming you are going to just drop off the block and not the entire car(save a ton in labor just by doing that). definitely dont skimp on something like this. no shady little shops on the corner. prices will probably vary greatly depending exactly what you need/want done and where you go.

I was quoted $3000 for replacing pistion rings/bearings by a variety of shops. You should probably expect the same.

If its just the block, $1500 or so.

i was quoted by a reputable shop in atl about $2000 for a boost ready fully built block. Which was an outstanding price. It really varies alot from shop to shop and also exactly what you want done also determines how much it will be.

1500 is probably a good round number. why not throw in a set of CTR pistons while your in there? Get a nice hone, .025 oversized CTRs, new rings, thin head gasket, and while the head is off, get a fresh valve job and valves/seals if needed. youll have awesome compression and the car will feel a lot different hopefully your crank is ok

sounds about right, but expect it to grow depending on the extent of the damage done to the motor. whil you have everythign apart though i would replace the pistons for some ctr's.

new block is the way to go. I think last time I priced one it was about $2200 or so. You can sell the old block and maybe make up the cost to pay someone to swap it.

Actually it does and it answers his question.

$3000 to drop the car off and have the engine rebuilt.

$1500 to drop off the engine and have it rebuilt.

You can get a brand new OEM shortblock, complete down to the oil pan, for less than $2,000 shipped to your door. Just throwing that out there.

dude, it's not that bad of a job to do yourself on the floor. just finished rod bearings on a b16 with just jackstands, no lift and it was fine. Your gonna spend less then $100 bucks doing it yourself, and that includes a oil pan gasket. no special tools required, just a little knowledge on how to size bearings which is very easy once you know what your looking for. I much rather save the extra 1500 bucks and make time to do it. don't be scared, it's just nuts and bolts.

Main bearing or rod bearing? You can't just replace those and let it go. Get a short block then when you sell it someone won't be after you for selling them junk.

Shortblock means a complete bottom end with crank, pistons, rods, etc but with no head.

I got my brand new OEM block shipped to my door for approximately $1900 and sold my old block for around $700.

I'd talk to Len. I'm sure he can give you the best deal available.
