silver-gs-R's Resurrection of CDM #00-0177
Well I dont even know where to begin, I am still shivering with excitment even though she's been in my garage for three weeks now. I drove my old boss to Vancouver B.C to pick heR up eight years ago almost to the date, I was at that time promised if he ever decided to part ways with heR I would have first dibs... I was 18 at the time and just starting in the automotive industry, I had just bought my GS-R at that time (which I still do own and will post a couple of pictures below) so I was more then happy with what I had at the time. In October of 2010 my boss at the time had blew the motor on heR, he pulled it out and tore the engine apart and had it rebuilt, he decided to take on another role in his career and didnt really have the time for heR. So as I had matured and laid down a solid foundation for myself and established myself at my role in the dealership, and watched heR sit at his home and get neglected I decided it was time for me to start hassling him and see if it was time...Well it took me three years but I finally managed to convince him to sell heR to me, I never imagined a grown man could be so sad letting a caR go but I understand his love and I think it makes him a lot more comfortable knowing she's in my possesion and he knows I will be restoring heR and getting heR back into showroom condition. I am a Parts Deparment Manager at an Acura dealer so this R will definitely be making a proper comeback and I hope I dont get lost and forget to update this thread but I will do my absolutely best so please keep checking back in.
This is the moment we picked heR up and began our journey back to Calgary. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...R/DSC02650.jpg Shortly after that we gassed up and topped up oil on both of these two for the long haul throught the mountains.... this is also the first picture I have of them together. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...R/DSC02651.jpg And..... one more http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...R/DSC02652.jpg Just a couple of pictures I snapped while driving horrible quality but most people cant say they have pictures this old so it means something to me. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...R/DSC02657.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...R/DSC02658.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...R/DSC02661.jpg and thats really all the pictures I have of heR back then, my boss at the time and I went our different ways but always kept in touch as best as we could... which will bring us up to date now. So here she was on March 2nd http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...0ED11F4C1C.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...8CBB757653.jpg She war burried under shit... I was overly impressed with him when I first laid eyes on heR again. Here's the old man standing with by his lady's side one last time. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...9650ED8223.jpg Getting loaded up, excited to go to heR new home where she would be looked after. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...4A02B512A3.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...16BF31CF89.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...F0AF569795.jpg She arrived home in one piece, with a solid inch of dust on heR skin and an empty engine bay, but the reason I wanted heR so badly and no other... is simply because she was bought at our dealership, then shipped to Vancouver where she spent most of her life with one of my boss's old friend's... then he bought heR and I kept a close eye on her the whole time. So in reality I've in some ways known heR this whole time. Secondly which was very important to me, is that she's got all her VIN plate/stickers on every panel so all the original panels are on heR, including the motor....which yes does need to be put back in the car but that isnt a concern at all to me, I was more concerned about having a motor with the matching numbers. I cant even begin to tell you guys how excited I am about this project and cant wait to get heR back on heR feet and looking perfect again. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...B5D8E36423.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...CE08E22049.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...06FC59EED6.jpg The project has already begun and I will update with some pictures here on the weekend so please keep checking in. |

Wow, this car lived with your old boss about 3 blocks from my house! I always wondered if it was still there once I stopped seeing it parked out front, thought I saw the yellow when the garage door was popped one day a few months ago.
Hopefully you get heR back on the road soon, I am jealous! |
Re: silver-gs-R's Resurrection of CDM #00-0177

I know I said I would keep up on this thread.........but you guys know the story life gets in the way haha.
Anyways lots has happen with the car this year, it was go go go hard on this project until April and then it was off to my K20 EM1 so this got put on the side burner. However the engine and engine bay are fully complete on the R. With the Civic and race season just about finished soon it'll be time to finish the R up. Next up is body shop, after were done with that it'll be back home for final assembly and a competition date of next summer if all goes according to plan. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...84543dc33f.jpgNovember of 2015, finally found a Sunday with some motivation and decided to get started. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...1bedfc523f.jpglets see what awaits us. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...3b91439f8a.jpggross, even though the previous owner is a good friend. I called him at one point everyday for two weeks cursing him out asking him how he could possibly neglect something this badly. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...142646c1da.jpgalright lets get started https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...4e2df9e46c.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...5ccf589979.jpggrab a seat sunshine, you are going to be here for awhile https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...f862ff8981.jpgtooth brush and simple green... lets go https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...37366319cd.jpgthese next few pictures I think were mostly for me to use as a reference when everything goes back together. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...dd91258b48.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...f5673a5f3b.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...bceedb2223.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...36a2d78854.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...47c120a262.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...2d3721ff38.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...738e62314d.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...2eea418649.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...1257ff7407.jpghmmmmm not bad not bad at all. three bottles of simple green later and a few weeks of some elbow grease and here it was. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...a2a212a502.jpgthe paint in the engine bay isn't the greatest... its far from awful and I thought hard about having it redone but it just wouldn't be the same. Honda only put a light coat for a reason I didn't want to mess with that reasoning. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...318ae2e326.jpgAlright time to go get a beating heart again. off to my buddy Darren's house, our good friend Jackie using his bad ass rig to move the R. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...50fc710026.jpgI never had the chance to take a picture of all the brand new parts together unfortunately, but I do promise you... just about every piece in this engine bay was replaced with brand new oem pieces. the entire intake system is brand new all of it. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...a8ab6d7f02.jpgmore parts https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...ff3dbbf58b.jpgparts parts parts https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...9bf3e75c55.jpgthere was nothing wrong with the radiator had a few bent fins but I felt better having a brand new one. the shroud and fan were not replaced as they just needed a quick rinse and wipe down. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...17fbc32c4e.jpgthe heart. everything brand new OEM.... except the ARP head studs, just felt more comfortable with them over the oem units I wanna be able to rev this thing for days and not worry about a thing. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...e38cab8e3f.jpghead on. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...80bb556415.jpgvalvetrain installed. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...7c540db99c.jpgready to roll https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...0fa3bc8e54.jpgall new lines, sensors, hoses, O-rings and so on. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...798831c7a2.jpgtransmission on, new oem clutch and flywheel, new clutch slave, all new mounts, all the engine mounts and hardware were also replaced with brand new factory units. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...35fc183d4d.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...4d08aafd88.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...0e5d551bb5.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...794bd6f10a.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...8326da7cab.jpgnew crank pulley, all new timing covers and gaskets. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...cd6189ace5.jpgyes even a brand new oem wire harness was installed. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...c79a62f601.jpgthe vehicle had previously been equipped with a remote starter and whoever had installed it for some reason spliced the harness in numerous spots...I was not ok with that. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...89ad4b0fc5.jpgand in she goes https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...40ce8a5086.jpgok, something I did not keep OEM USDM is the header, cat, and midpipe. the header and cat were discontinued and I had a spare JDM set so decided to use it instead, went to see my friend at JDM Source for a mid pipe, and then a brand new OEM Muffler... ofcourse all gaskets and hardware were replaced. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...d9775b067b.jpgbrand new oil pan, oil pump, new axles, new halfshaft, new shift linkages and shifter https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...de108ebbff.jpgbrand new OEM header heatshield from our best friend Matt @ ICB https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...3bfce45185.jpgthe top headshield and brand new radiator https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...fa3f4bd369.jpgremember when I previously said the entire intake was replaced with brand new OEM... yes even the resonator chamber is there.. I do still have the Comptech Unit the vehicle came with but I am unsure if I want to use it. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...04b4b4adac.jpgoh baby she's almost ready to come home. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...bb6f4ce92f.jpgsorry I am a few pictures behind at this point. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...62db22ce74.jpgyummy yummy, another piece not USDM OEM is the JDM Oil Cap. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...283717182e.jpgFinished Product I love It!!! Another JDM Piece you may notice is the Integra Type-Rx Carbon Spark Plug Wire Cover with all new grounds throughout the engine bay. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...f125c4d6f6.jpgonce again Jackie from Balance Auto Garage giving us a ride back home. guys more updates are coming I promise, they may be in six months again haha but please keep checking in as I continue to share this journey with you guys. |
