Question about ITR Gearbox...
I have been noticing for a while now that when I am driving my R and I try to downshift into first (at 2-3 miles an hour....an absolute crawl...usually when I go over speedbumps or dips) it won't go without a fuss...sometimes a little slapping sound but not like a grind. I kinda have to force it in which I'm very reluctant to do. Is this the way the ITR manual transmission is built, or has something gone south in my gearbox?

Re: Question about ITR Gearbox... (Captain Commando)
Thanks for the info. I see...so my other question for you would be:
Is it damaging the gearbox when you don't rev match and try to shift into first at a slow speed? If it is...in what way is it damaging the manual trans.?

If that was the case, how do you explain shifting into 1st at a dead stop without grinding? A non synchro box will always make a ton of noise when doing this. I'm really curious about this.

100% normal.......sometimes a quick clutch down into 2nd gear and then 1st gear will do the trick...helps line the teeth up
btw 1st gear does have a syncro
don't force it in...if it's not going into gear there is a reason

So what possible damage results from forcing it into gear...with the clutch all the way...just gears not meshed?

1st gear does have synchros, its 1-2 set, then you have 3-4 set and last 5-R sets.
As far as your questions goes, change your fluid if you havn't had so. Also check the fluids on the slave cylinder, those tend to go bad, no matter what mileage of the car have!
