PR3-3... Type R or B16 head??
Hey everybody, I just recently picked up an LS/Vtec motor from a local junk yard.. The head is stamped PR3-3 and has an Type-R intake manifold.. I think the head is a JDM head but not sure.. So, everyone with ITR and B16 heads, let me know what I've got in hand. I'll try to post pics of my head up soon..

Sigh!!
I swear this question have never been asked before
On a more seriuous note, there are other things to look for to determine if it indeed is a ITR head, you have done a search on the subject?

Note that the final digit in the head stamping is a random digit from 1 to 4. There's no way of telling the difference between the two just by looking at that particular stamping.

All b16a/b17a/ITR heads come from the SAME casting, therefore the casting stamp, whether it be PR3-1, PR3-2, PR3-3 or PR3-4 are ALL possible ITR heads.
As for the portwork, it is a very small porting and smoothing (not polishing) of the runner surface on the intake side only, it starts about 1.5 inches in from the port, so if you look into the intake port and see a change in surface appearance about 1.5inches in, AND you have green paint behind the distributor area you have a positive ID on an ITR head.

I've done plenty of research.. But it is so hard to find information on the ITR head itself.. It doesn't say anything about the stamps at all. Thats why Im asking people here on HT to see what their ITR's and B16's stamps say. I'll try to post some pics up. Thanks for everbody's help.

Where exactly would the green paint be on at the distributor area?? Also, isn't there any chance that the green paint would eventually fade off after years??

This is a old thread but for anyone who wants to see the port work here is a pic from my build thread of my brand new out the box Type R head. It is stamped pr3-4 by the way. Note only the Intake bowls are swirl ported, very mild work.
Watch this video on the actual porting being done to the cylinder heads.
